I have a Pearl in the house for demo for a couple days and I've noticed that I get jerky motion and combing on moving objects in film mode with movies in 1080i. I have checked movies in 480i and the film mode seems to work fine. If I put DDE in progressive mode I get rid of the jerky motion but still get some combing around edges of objects and if I turn DDE off I get rid of all combing and jerky motion at the expense of some detail that I seem to lose in the off mode. Is this the same experience that others have in film mode or does this projector have issues with film mode. I have read all the reviews about the Pearl and have not read anything about jerky/stuttering motion on moving objects. I am looking to replace my Optoma H79 with a 1080p projector.( Pearl/JVC/Epson) I can get a good deal on this Pearl but was wondering if the JVC is really worth 2 grand more, and that maybe the JVC would be cheaper in the long run because I may not need a video processor.

I have not seen that issue on my Pearl. What source device are you using?

I feed my Pearl 1080i from a HD-A2 HD DVD player. The results are spectacular and the motion is extremely smooth. I think the problem may be with your signal source.

Plenty of people in Europe notice "judder" on 60hz DVD/HD DVD/BD film material caused by 3:2 IVTC. We get very smooth film motion @ 50hz PAL and so 60hz film material stands out as noticeably less smooth on pan shots etc. HD DVD motion is smoother on the Pearl if you feed as 24/48p signal and then you can "benchmark" 60hz smooth against this. The OP may be more sensitive to the 3:2 "judder" as IMO HD-DVD is not "extremely smooth" on the Pearl at 60hz. :)

Is this phenomenon constant or a type of "judder" or "stutter" in scenes were the camera pans ? Also what is the source of the image ?
