Ok, I went about this a bit backwards.. Got a good deal on relatively dark blue curtains that I will use to cover up doors in my home theatre. The ceiling will be black, and I expect to use black paint (or cloth) for the front wall as well. However, I was thinking of either painting or making cloth covered panels for the side walls. What would go nicely with relatively dark blue (I'll see if I can find a better name for it that is more descriptive... but it is pretty much like what cinemas would use I think).

I also have black leather recliners. The carpet is white (no budget to change that unfortunately).

I'm thinking either a different shade of blue, or some dark brown???

From color theory: other blues work, and the complement of blue, which is yellow/orange (brown is a very dark orange).
However, if you're all just black and white right now with blue curtains, almost anything will work (try a wine red/purple, for example); you're nowhere near color overload yet.

I like khaki type colors with blue seats, curtains, etc. In fact, I color schemed one of my clinics like that.

That's a Theo Kalomirakis Theater "The Rialto" in a 75 million dolar home.

thanks for additional suggestions! My personal opinion is that with the black and white, gray may be a bit "cold" (even though I agree it would probably look nice), and for yellow, I'm a bit worried about it being to bright, though maybe a dark yellow might be nice.

If your carpet is still in good shape you can always dye it or pay someone to dye it for you. I have always had good luck going from light colors to dark. Depending on the size of your room and if you DIY or pay it will be 125-500$ on average.

Exactly..a deep yellow. Almost a brownish yellow.

nx2k91, That's an interesting option! The carpet looks to be in pretty good shape (we bought the house less than a year ago.)

JBungie, yes that sounds nice. I'll see if I can get some designing software and try out some colors!

Obviously it is a vastly different fiscal mindset, but I must wonder what goes through someone's head as they contemplate a $75 million dollar home..
