View Full Version : NIN: Beside You in Time + My HD-A1: Skipping Issues
Jeffroy 03-13-07, 01:44 AM Just wondering if anyone else with an A1 has had any issues with NIN? Using the TrueHD track, I get skips in the disc about once every 3 songs or so. It really gets quite skippy during 'The Hand That Feeds' near the end. I've never had this kind of regular problem before with my A1 on any of my other 30 titles.
Have any other A1 owners had an issue with this disc, or should I just ask Amazon for a fresh copy?
It does on mine too. It's the first and only disc that skips. It was frustrating since the disc is obviously one of the best for picture and sound.

Same here, first time ever. Didnt skip alot, maybe 5 individual skips and then it was ok.
acave_uk 03-13-07, 07:18 AM pretty much all my discs skips and go out of sync. A1 is pretty poor really.

There, fixed your statement for you.
My A1 handled this disk w/o any problems what so ever, just like it does all disks that aren't beat to hell by previous netflix users.
wizzack 03-13-07, 08:51 AM My A1 hiccupped at least once on every song. Have fw 2.0 since it came out and this was the first problem i've had. Other than that the pq/aq was fantastic.
I passed on the BD version since I have the PS3 and can't get the dolby trueHD audio.
This is the last time I will buy an hddvd when there is a BD available. (unless there is some new firmware coming that fixes it). VERY DISAPPOINTING
Primus67 03-13-07, 08:54 AM mine does it also, but only with the truehd soundtrack. it does the same thing with other movies also using the truehd soundtrack. and it does it whenever it feels like during king kong. and sometimes it also does it whenever i skip chapters back or forth.
dago2727 03-13-07, 09:25 AM Same here. Every couple of songs, the True HD soundtrack skips on my A-1. My replacement from Amazon does the same thing. I was on the fence about getting the Blu-Ray version because I have a PS3, but since I dont have a receiver with HDMI, I wouldn't get the True HD. I probably will keep it, but this shouldn't be happening. Hopefully the rumored 2.1 firmware that should be coming out this week, will fix the problem since it says "better disc efficiency". I guess I have to wait and see.
Mine is skipping too... XA1, TrueHD, 2.0. Sent it back to amazon and they are sending another. From this sounds of it (no pun intended) the new disc will be the same. :(
mchuckp 03-13-07, 09:36 AM I have an XA1 and mine played perfectly the first time I watched it. At that time I watched about the first 5 tracks. I put it in a few days later and watched the next 4-5 tracks and got the sporadic skipping. I haven't put it in since. Waiting on my new speakers to show up tomorrow before watching more!
I've wondered if it has a tendency to skip when you don't start from the beginning. Anyone getting skipping when starting from track 1?
I'm hoping the supposed new firmware upgrade coming will help with stuff like this. I do get a fair amount of skips, freezes, and stutters. It sounds like my most problem discs are the same ones that other people complain about. NIN, KK, Superman Returns.
I got a few skips on this disc with True HD too. Sure it's slightly annoying, but it's not anything to get angry about.
Sofdec7 03-13-07, 11:00 AM Skipped a few times on my player (A1 w/ 2.0 FW) but so do most HDDVDs since I got the player :(
The truehd soundtracks seem to only add to the problems - every one I've listened to has had multiple 'glitching' problems throughout. I was tempted to get the Blu Ray version for this reason alone but like others have said, I can only get trueHD from HDDVD with my setup.
candyrocket786 03-13-07, 11:04 AM When I watched it yesterday, it seemed more of an audio drop-out.
Normally, if playback skips on my A1, I need to resync with the "Pause" button.
That wasn't the case with NIN. The audio dropped, came back and everything was in sync.
ShagMan 03-13-07, 11:40 AM My HD-A1 played it 100% fine all the way through.
I find that I have to be VERY careful about the placement of my HD-A1, it really runs hot and needs to breathe.
Mine skipped for a long time in various titles, until I found out I shouldn't have hot air from a projector hitting it.

are you kidding? when i pay $500 for a unit, i'd like it to be in proper working order. not to mention that this problem is not isolated to one disc. or to one person. i think we have every right to be angry.
gashog301 03-14-07, 09:09 AM I got my XA1 when they first came out and it has worked great, never had a problem with it. I have this disk buts its a BR. The more and more I read all the problems people are having with HDDVD the more I get pushed over to BR. I would love to have both formats, but it seems like Toshiba needs to get some firmware out there to help everyone out or this battle is over.BTW I have had zero issues with NIN on BR.

hell yeah. never had a problem with my $30 cyberhome player!
if this issue is not fixed via firmware my A1 is going back to toshiba
i think we have every right to be angry.
Knock your socks off
ClashFan 03-14-07, 11:53 AM I too have had some problems. I've played the disc twice all the way through. First, with TrueHD I had 4-5 brief pauses/hiccups. I'm not sure if this is the "skipping" some of you others have.
Then I played the DD+, and the whole thing played flawlessly.
I've had very very few problems with my A-1 in the 5+ months that I've had it. The 4-5 hiccups I had were the most in the previous 5 months combined, over many dozens of playings of HD DVD and DVDs.

yep that's it. it seems to happen mostly with any movie while the trueHD soundtrack is being used.
alpha21 03-14-07, 01:48 PM I haven't had any skipping/freezes/hiccups from NIN:BYIT
I have had quick little audio drops (extremely similar to what happens on D* HD channels, usually happens at the beginning of 24 on channel 88)
I've watched the disc twice and it has happened in two different spots, so it can't be the disc. It never lasts that long and I barely even notice it.
It's an issue that is not present in ANY other HD-DVD I have seen. So, to me, it really isn't that big of a deal, especially since I'm very used to it with D* HD.
*edit equipment and setup*
XA1
Analog audio only
Furkmyster 03-14-07, 02:48 PM Yes, I had skipping/hiccups with my A1 as well with the TruHD soundtrack. Didn't try any other audio tracks.
Arutha_conDoin 03-14-07, 04:22 PM I get audio drops out on this disc on the first song and every 3-4 songs or so. I haven't tried listening to it in DD+ so that will be the next step I try. I've fiddled in the setup to see if anything will help and nothing does. Right now I have my Tos Link set to PCM, but I may move that back to Bitstream since when I watch SD DVD I get better sound through that then my Analog cables. One other thing I might try is to disconnect the TOS link and just have only one audio option set for that player. I'm assuming if I have both audio outs and on my receiver (Denon 1803)have selected EXT IN that the HD player is only sending the audio through analog and not through both Analog and TOS.
Damn good concert though even with the pauses that occur. It happens, but atleast it is not locking up the concert.
