View Full Version : Stupid question from Dave time again.... Ps2 controller on Ps3...?
Dave Mack 03-13-07, 04:08 AM Hiya guys!
Just downloaded Tekken and want to get a 2nd controller to have some throwdowns with guests but do NOT want to pay $50 for another sixaxis wireless thingy especially when they have now announced rumble will be back which means new controllers eventually. Can I just say, get a used PS2 controller and use it on the ps3? I've never owned a PS2 so I don't know.
thanks! d
Dave Mack 03-13-07, 04:18 AM well, looked on amazon and it seems the connector thingy is WAY bigger on the ps2.
Ps3 just has that little USB connector. Too bad. I have a PS2 game "The Warriors" that uses rumble as a major feature in the game which is REAL hard when playing on the PS3 guessing where the rumble is and also $49.99 for a controller with no rumble, even if bluetoothy wireless is just hella expensive IMHO...

the first link answers your first post. But if you notice you can only use it to play ps3 games
This second link kind of answers your 2nd post which MAY allow it to work on ps2 games, but it doesn't seem like people are too sure yet

Just picked up a PS2-to-USB controller adapter at Radio Shack over the weekend for $12; originally meant to work on PCs, it works fine on the PS3 USB port with both the basic PS2 controller and with a wireless Logitech Rumblepad that I had. Have only used it a couple of times but appears to give full functionality to the controllers, no lag time, etc.
You can do a store search on their website to see where they've got them in stock (despite a lot of stores in my area, only a few had them, probably being phased out)...
Hope this helps!
Dave Mack 03-13-07, 02:48 PM thanks pag06! That's sweet!
Much appreciated for the responses, guys!!!!

michael000 03-13-07, 03:24 PM Rumble is on the way for the PS3 (one of the guys from the God of War II team said it'll be in God of War III) so if you can hold out you can save yourself the pain of double dipping and having multiple outdated controllers.
Dave Mack 03-13-07, 03:44 PM yep! I think I'll get a cheap ps2 controller and adaptor to tide me over.
Ebgames has an adaptor scheduled for may 1st but I don't want to wait that long. RS for me.
How much does EBgames usually charge for a used ps2 controller?

Anthony1 03-13-07, 05:26 PM Anybody know if it would work with a Playstation 1 dualshock? I used to use a PS1 controller with the PS2, and it worked absolutely fine. I heard somewhere that certain games require the actual black PS2 dualshock, but I never encountered any problems myself.
I guess I'll know the answer to this question pretty soon, cause I'm going to order one of those USB adapter things.

Thats funny, I posted about seeing these at radioshack a few months ago and people told me they didn't work so I decided not to pick any up. Good to hear they really do work!
Mattardo 03-13-07, 05:33 PM I still wanna see the adaptor work by plugging into a ps3 controller. Less wires.
redmption 03-21-07, 07:00 PM I got a PS2 to USB adapter off ebay for $10 with shipping. Works great so far. Some of them are crazy ugly and require a battery for some reason but the one I got appears to be Japanese import but with english writing, bad grammar :o), on the front of the box but is all black and very clean. Maybe only 3 inches long. I highly recommend getting one if you have an extra PS2 controller but dont want to shell out the $50 for a sixaxis. The box also says it supports PS1 Dual Shock on the PS3. I havent tried a wireless PS2 controller yet but I hear it doesnt work well
