I am installing a HT set up in my currently being renovated apt in the city. I will have a dedicated AV closet and a room that is more or less, a dedicated AV room. I have/will have several source components and at the very least, need a video processor to serve as a switch, but feel I could benefit from a video processor as well.

I should note that I had/have a CenterStage CS-2 and after weeks of trial and error, I just mothballed it and chucked it into the closet. Personally I found the image quality worse and it had all sorts of HDCP compliance issues...

The primary display is a LG 42 HD plasma -DU-42PX12XD.
Input -- DVI x1, Component Video x2
Resolution: 1024 x 768 (Native)

Sources:
Esoteric DV-50 DVD player. output DVI x1, Component Video x1
Tivo 3 - output HDMI x1, Component Video x1
Xbox360 - Component Video x1
HTPC -- Output ???
At some point, a HD/Bluray player -- HDMI
At some point I will have distributed video via the Netstream platform in conjunction with the Naimnet audio distribution system. Lets assume component video for now.

1) So the problem is that I have some DVI and HDMI input and outputs. Do I loose any image quality switching from one to another?

2) I want something that I won't need to replace for a while. So, do I go with a HDMI unit and use converters?

Some of the units that are discussed at length on this board.
Vantage-HD: In the host of these other players, no one seems to be overwhelmed by the unit?
VP30: Seems to have a host of issues that are not getting resolved?
Crystalio II VPS3300: seems to be the flavor of the month, the most advanced technology and upgradeable, but at a price. Is it overkill for the system?
Lumagen: The oldest of the group, but with DVI in and out. Might work today, but will it still be good in 3-4 years... Its being updated this year.
Other?

3) The standard def on the LG unit is not so great, so I need something that can really sharpen it up?

4) Ease of use. Video processors reminds me of the comment, bull$$it baffles. I need something that will work well as a switcher and will also give me some optical benefits. The most important being, ease of use. (This comment is related to my experience with the CenterStage CS-2.)

Thank You
