Looking for opinions, we all know the PS2 greatly outsold the XBOX, will the XBOX360 turn it around?

Obviously I don't think one will ever outsell the other by a magnitude of 20 or even 10, like the last gen.

I voted After '08.
Obviously the 1yr head start the 360 has is skewing the numbers a little right now.
After a full year and change I think will see the PS3 'outsell' the 360. The PS3 wont in anyway blow the 360 away though.

I voted late 08.

Sony, does need to get their crap togethor because the 360 is the better gaming console right now, IMO.

When Sony does catch the 360 it will be based on a price drop converting the bazillion PS2 owners. More games or a must have title won't do it.

I also elected Late 08. Once the flagship games hit (Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, SOCOM) it will be a matter of time.

I say holiday 08 or a little later. There is nothing earth shattering coming until FF. (MGS sells less every game as much as folks want to call it a system seller).

Once big games that attract more regions than the U.S., like FF13 and MGS4, then PS3 will take over.

Well I voted 'Never'...imho, the days of the video game market being dominated by one company (ie, the PS2 era) are dead. To me, there's no competition, 360 has won this round.

I kinda agree with what you are saying though.. I think the time of PS2 numbers are over.. even if the Wii does sell 100 million.. the other systems will still get their 50-75million in..

The PS3 wont sell in huge numbers until its priced below $299.. I personally dont see that happening in the next 1 or so.. maybe 2009.. it will drop below $300.. 2010 it will definitely be $300 which will also be right about the time MS ups the ante with the xbox720..

I kind of wanted to ask this just to see what individuals really thought about the current gen and what they thought the overall outcome would be.

Im said to say never, Unless they stop pushing back titles.

The PS3 needs games and lots of them. I bought mine in December and I still don't own any new games. I played R:FOM and it is a cool AAA title, but I loathe racing games and did not even like one of the 5 different racing demos I got (GTHD, Ridge Racer, GripShift, MotorStorm, Formula One). The sad truth is that the game getting 90% of my PS3 time is not even a PS3 title - its God of War!

I already own or have played a bunch of the other recent games on the 360 (FEAR, Rainbow, Splinter Cell, COD3, Oblivion, Madden, MLB) so I am waiting for exclusives or better versions on PS3 to turn my gaming habits....what makes that relevant here? Simple - if games continue to be better (or available sooner - like GRAW2?) on other platforms or more plentiful at the least, then the PS3 won't ever catch the 360. If games like MGS4 or one of the other big titles scheduled for 2007 come out on time and are fun games, then PS3 with Home, Blu-Ray, and a stable supply of games will be more popular.

At the latest, end of 2008 the PS3 should be dominating. Yes things change but I think people forget about the catalog that Sony has/had. Sure they lost some exclusives, but they have a lot of well known AAA titles than MS. Right now tho the 360 is killin the PS3. When MGS and FF13 comes out, I think it'll pretty much set the tone for the PS3.

No matter what happens, I hope the race is tight (comp is always good)

You don't have a never at this price point option :rolleyes: . Honestly though, if they every do bypass the 360, it is going to be 2+ years out. The games coming on the Ps3 are scarce when it comes to good content, and the 360 has some huge titles coming forward. It is all going to come down to content, which is on the 360's side atm.

I think that the PS3 will eventually surpass sales of the 360 worldwide but not for 2 years. If blue ray becomes the standard and prices come down a bit then by 09 I think they will outsell 360.

By then there will be good saturation for hdtv's and all the big AAA titles will be released.

Also, I think that Microsoft will come out with their next console much earlier than Sony. Possibly as early as 2010 which would most likely cannabolize sales of the 360.

I seriously doubt there will be a Xbox 720 in 2009 or 2010...but in 2011 there will be. Microsoft rushed the Xbox 360 to market...They are still having hardware issues with the box...and there is no HDMI...and you can not use real off the shelf bluetooth products.....that said...the xbox 360 is a good machine...but there are also not that many good games...gears of war, and oblivion and rainbow 6 vegas are about it...

The Xbox 360 has some titles comming out this year but all they really have that are going to be good is Halo 3 and Forenza Motor Sports 2...


The Playstation 3 has Heavenly Sword, Lair, Warhawk, and Meta Gear Solid 4....we might ever see Devil may Cry 4 in 2008 along with the new final fantasy plus the Rachet and Clank PS3 game....

And do not forget PS3 Home...if i can play some bowling and pool with 15 others of my friends in my decked out virtual crib, while watching some videos streaming on my virtual Sony 52 inch LCDs...that will be priceless...

I pick sony to overtake microsoft in mid 2008....
