I need some assistance. I'll give you a quick system rundown.

Infinity Kappas 6 1/2 compenents in the doors
Infinity Kappas 6 1/2 coax in the rear deck

They are powered by an Infinity 4 channel amp. 114 x 4

2 JL audio subs 15w6
powered by a old Punch 200xi

I am experiencing static in the front speakers. I did a couple of checks:
-checked the speaker connection to the amp
-check all amp inputs (RCAs)

When I disconnected the RCAs to the amp, still heared the static in the front speakers. I'm stumped at this point. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

is this a recent problem, or has it always been like this from installation?

It is probably bad wiring. You should also check the speaker connections at the x-over and speakers.

More importantly, check the ground wire and power wire. Is the connection corroded? did the paint not get rubbed off enough? is there a loose screw of bolt? Is the wire of a sufficient gauge? Does the static only come through when the car is running?

The problem just started, probably a couple of weeks ago. I've done an entire check. I'm going to rewire the car and see where that gets me. I'll update you. Thanks for the info

Since it just started, it is most likley a loose or poorly connected wire (corrosion). Or, something broke inside the amp or speaker.

If you are sure of all of the connections, and the rear speakers do not have static, then try reversing the front and rear speaker leads at the amp.

Now, if the front continues to buzz, and the rear does not, then your problem is in the front speaker lead, or in the front speaker itself.

Now, if the rear speaker starts to buzz and the front is fine, you probably have a defective amp.

I would try one wire at a time, not a whole re-wire, that could be a lot of work and you still might have the same problem.

Try this out...

Swap your front and rear speakers on your amp and see if they still have static. That's assuming your rears didn't. If there is still static then it's something in the wiring or the speaker. If there's no static anymore than it's something in your amp or the rca's (or deck outputs) going to your amp - you can rule out rca's (or deck outputs) by swapping the rca inputs on the amp as well (again this is assuming your rears didn't have static)...

edit - Just reading over your post again it looks like it's not your rca's... Try swapping the speaker outs on your amp like I stated above.
