View Full Version : Where the heck is Blood Diamond?

I was SO looking forward to Blood Diamond on HD DVD and I went to go look for a pre-order and it looks like it is NOT coming out on the 20th with the DVD?!?!

This was one of my favorite movies last year and I was really looking forward to this. I have googled around but have found nothing about it's release. Does anyone know what happened?

Please tell me it's not in "Blu-hell" (the term I coined meaning movies like LOTR and Matrix that are rumored to be held up by the silliness that is BD-java). Where is it?!

I don't understand what is taking so long for them to do this. Just go to Wal-Mart and buy some Lockit super glue (or whatever it's called) and slap the disc together. Once you use that stuff to glue something together (including your fingers) you'll never get it off. This way, since it is actually 2 disc glued together, they could gladly charge double the price!

Don;t know what to say about the lack of releases that hasn't already been said. I got an update release list from my local MovieStop today and it is just sad that for the next few months BD has twice as many releases coming out.

Where's rdjam? Wasn't he the one who originally started the Warner/BD-J petition and letters?

Maybe a follow-up is needed to be sent to Warner.

Personally, I don't care which format version I get, as long as it's the best it can be, and that goes for video, sound, and extras. If it turns out that it really is the case that one format is holding the other back (remember, it's all still speculation at this point) , then release the one that is ready.

I don't know how much of this is speculation. We had reports in November that Matrix was finished, We have an American version of Harry Potter with a UK sleeve sold in England, We have the 3 month delay on the last IME based movie Warner has sold. It has been three months since that release since we have had a IME based movie, where Warner had been on a roll lately. We have a complete lack of Warner titles outside the usual catalog titles and new releases and we have now have a delay in a title that shows up in the Infamous French list as an HD-DVD only (which has been a good indicator of IME use).

What really bothers me is Superman Returns and The Departed (SR especially) would have been great IME movies. I really wonder if Warner dropped or passed on IME to be able to release them both with a BD counterpart.

I have the Opposite opinion, If Warner does'nt want my extra Money for the HD version then I will gladly buy the SD and save $15. Of which I can buy another DVD. The Improvement in picture is only worth it to me If they come out Day and Date. And since this is a combo anyway the Damn SD Version is already on it. Sorry Warner You Lose $15. Actually I have ordered the Following Titles on SD

Blood Diamond
Rock Balboa
Children of Men
Pursuit of Happiness
Happy Feat

All for $9.18 each 60% off at Columbia House after a Regular Purchase of a TV Box Set at 40% off plus Shipping. With that type of Pricing You still cannot Beat SDDVD. What would the HD Versions of all that cost me?

I'm all about saving a buck or two but even if you did get a sweet deal with the SD dvds there still not HD DVD .........I didn't spend my hard earned bucks on a HD DVD player to keep purchasing SD DVDs!
You did get a sweet deal though.

Of course I might feel different if I had a High Def Projector, my Projector is SD and my Xbox 360 Addon is hooked via HDMI to a 32" Sammy LCD. The Picture is still noticibly Hi Def but not a great leap over SD Upconverted, if I had a 1080P Display things would be different. So for Now my Purchases will stil probably be more toward SD

I dont buy the excuse that we are "suffering" because of BR. Many new releases have been coming out on BD so something in their manufacturing process and authoring process is working. Either Warner is having their own problems authoring BDs or this is being used as en excuse for some other reason.

And how many of them have BD-J (PIP)?
Warner is having problems authoring BDs with the interactive features they want. Where is The Matrix? We know it will have interactive features on it. Why did they put out HP in the UK, but not in the US? It even has the FBI warning.
Why haven't they put out Batman Begins in BD yet?
I don't know if any of this is related to Blood Diamond, but it is clear that some movies have been held back by Warner because BD didn't have their act together.

The Big clue on Blood Diamond is the HD-DVD only tag in the France list. Every HD-DVD only movie on that list has been proven to be a IME filled title. Warner seems to not want to go the LG route and create two encodes and rightfully so, but I wish it ones formats failure didn't impact the format that has had this functionality up and running in the very beginning.

I dont know why everyone makes such a song and dance about 1080p. 720p and 1080i only sets are just as good especially at 32 - 40" screen sizes.

Todays Circuit City ad had the Blood Diamond dvd that was a special deal when you buy Syriana with it. Between the two it said also available on Hd dvd and BD. I'm not sure if they were talking about Blood Diamond, Syriana, or both.

I've heard from a few places that May 22 is the day for this title. It was most likley pushed back due to Blu-ray's lack of interactivity and Warner's desire to implement an In-Movie Experience. May seems to be Sony's deadline for having their Java ready (with both Pirates BDs using it), so this date just may be accurate.

Yes, I saw that South Park is coming out on BD soon. Why? That seems like a waste. I think non HD filmed TV shows will always be better on SD. I am thinking of getting Flags of our Fathers on SD until it's available in HD. So, I guess I'm of the feeling that I'll only buy an SD copy if it's a movie I don't mind buying twice or something I dont' see a benefit to HD.

I didn't expect (or care) if it was, since I'm not a SP fan. It just seemed that SP should be low on the list for upgrading it to either HD format. It's cardboard cutouts with voice overs. Do we need that in HD? :D

If you have an Xbox360 you can download the HD version of one of their episodes for free. Once you see that you can really start to strive to have cartoons in HD only. I almost think that the definitive lines come out better on a large TV in HD. Maybe an Upconvert of a good DVD might look as good but I doubt it.

I read that as well, but it the most users of this forum won't benefit from this release, since it will be more expensive, due to importing.
