Hi,

Do any of the current HD-DVD titles benefit from being connected to the internet.

If so, has anyone any good experiences they wish to share?

Cheers, Lee

I'm pretty sure nothing is supported yet. It would be great if Universal would put out something that does this to help promote the HD-DVD group.

Nothing yet but there is a video on thelookandsoundofperfect.com of a Demo Universal put on during the CES convention in January showing some cool online features.

Such as the ability to save and forward clips to other people/players from a movie and my personal favorite was a demo of being able to connect to the internet and then an option would become available on the disc to view live trailers before watching the movie.

I asked Amir (the Microsoft rep here) about it on the insiders thread and he said if people are more vocal about wanting this it would push Universal towards releasing these features sooner.

It will be great if Japanese HD DVDs allow to download extra English or French subtitles.

I watched the HD DVD Interactivity Demo on The Look and Sound of Perfect (http://www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com/) and while I'm not too excited about sharing bookmarks, the possibility of all sorts of other downloads is cool.

Kevin Collins showed a demo of a screensaver download for Smokin' Aces, so maybe that will be one of the first titles to offer downloadable content. Also, when he pulled up the download section, there were other choices. One looked like something from The Good Shepherd, but I couldn't make out the other two.

Personally, I am excited about the possibilities of downloadable content. I'd love to see new HD trailers; bonus featurettes, outtakes, scenes, or other things not included on the actual HD DVD; maybe new commentaries; hi res pictures or storyboards; of course other subtitles, and maybe trivia tracks. Who knows? Hopefully Toshiba will enable external storage to open up even more possibilities.

I know in the past, Universal (and others) have double-dipped dvd's only adding extras to build anticipation of a sequel. Ideally, I'd like to see that stuff added as online downloads instead of a double-dip. Of course, that may just be wishful thinking.

I agree and as I mentioned above, I asked Amir if it was available now or when it would be. He said something to the effect that we need to be vocal about it to show Universal that these are wanted features. I'll try to find the post again to quote him exactly but also maybe we can ask him for some further clarification on the subject to find out what would be helpfull to get this moving

I finally connected my D2 to the internet and searched around for online content. Any changes since the last post 3/14?

I had already updated the firmware using a CD-R, but attempted an update anyway and the machine said my firmware was up to date.

Freedom Vol. 1 and the upcoming Blood Diamond support online content. Other than that I'm not sure what else will be taking advantage of this.

I could have sworn that somewhere on the Matrix Trilogy boxes it said that you could download audio commentary from Keanu Reeves and others. Maybe I just imagined it, but I swear it says it on one of the boxes.
