I'm in the process of doing up my home theatre. We are actually in contruction phase of the entire basement.
I'm trying to find a nice cabinet to host the A/V equipment. I would really like a built in look to the cabinet. Any recommendations on a cabinet provider?
I'm considering either making the back available via a door or doing a pull-out cabinet. So I need to make a cabinet decision fast in order to have the framers do their job correctly.
Thanks,
bob
Mid-Atlantic makes some nice racks. I framed out the back of my HT room so that I can slide the rack right into it. The back of the rack extends out of the room under the stair way which I made into a closet. I used regular plywood for a door in the back of it with hinges and cut a few inches off on the bottom for the cords and cable to go thru. Two things I didnt like about the slid out racks were the cables being moved constantly and the additional price. It is much nicer and easier to just walk into the closet and open the rack door to do any adjustments I need for cable hook-up
You can click on the link in my sig to see some pictures of it in my room.

I was doing the same thing - and I ended up building the cabinet into the wall custom. It was not that much work - and I got exactly what I wanted. Can you access the BACK of the components from anothe room or closet? I would recommend buliding it into a closet or something (meaning the front is exposed to the room, but you go in the closet and you have access to the back of the components). Another option is an IR repeater - so you can have your components in another room (except DVD) and just have the repeater eye in the room where you will view/control the stuff.....I wish I had done that.
Now I am looking for an AC powered "case" fan that I can plug into the receiver that will more air out of the cabinet for ventilation.
Another option is to buy a kitchen cabinet (like under a counter cabinet) and install that. Comes with doors ect. I am building a door with a smoked piece of lexan plastic on the front. Any good finish or "semi-finish" carpetner (or even framer) can do the built in "box" for you - use 1/2 birch for the box, and finish with pine or poplar trim.
I agree with TVpOOned, after framing the built-in A/V rack it would have been simple and cheaper to just have added my own shelves rather then sliding the Mid-Atlantic shelf in there that was about $500

I used an IKEA bookshelf, recessed into my wall in my HT.
It fit all of my requirements... It was inexpensive, looked decent and had doors.
