I don't know about you guys, but The Road Warrior is one of my favorite movies. I was 11 years old when my mom took me to see George Miller's opus (yes, I had a cool mom  ). My first impression was shock and horror at the rape scene and the fingers getting cut off.

The whole loner guy with a cool car and a dog just trying to survive in a wasteland is just incredibly intrigueing. The cinematography is gorgeous, the costumes interesting and the story cool. Humungous is one of the most vile and freaky bad guys in cinema history.

The Road Warrior completely redefined what speed on screen was. Nobody had ever seen anything like the adrenaline-fueled images he created.

So George, less talking animals and more racing please. There has periodically been talk of revisiting the Mad Max series. At times Mel has been on and offboard. Fury Road was actually in preproduction with a massive payday to Mel at one point, but for reasons I'm not privy to, it all fell apart.

But nothing's going to top The Road Warrior. It's one of the best sci-fi films ever made and is the benchmark for racing films.

I'm assuming the commentary is the only extra which is too bad. There was a special edition VHS that had a short 7 minute (I think) featurette. I kept holding out for the SE DVD to come out including it but it never did.

The stunts in this are just insane . Way too dangerous to get away with in todays terms ( way too dangerous back then to be honest). The way some of those guy's come flying off their bikes you just know they broke bones ( and they did). One rather large explosion produces way too much shrapnel and large debris to be considered remotely safe.

cool!

I'd love to see another version of Damnation Alley that was faithful to the book as its the archetypal road warrior story ( nothing like the crummy effort Fox made with George Peppard ,all that shares is the title)

Woot! Thanks for the heads up, fettastic.

EXCELLENT flick, and despite its age, you know it can look awesome, so much of it is shot outdoors...if those scenes hold up like the outdoor scenes in the older Blazing Saddles, this will be a KILLER addition, thanks WB! :D

And before it even gets mentioned, keep the Mel bashing thoughts elsewhere. :)

Yea, I have the Mad Max trilogy including the original australian release of The Road Warrior. I hope the HD version is from the australian release and not the US one which I also have. The US release had the audio overdubbed with a less of an aussie accent so us Americans could understand the dialog. Kind of funny but the dispatcher in the US version was a soft spoken woman and on the original is was a man with a very strong gruff accent. They even overdubbed Mel :(

Does someone have a email address for Warner HD so I can ask and make sure they are using the original soundtrack or at least include both soundtracks :)

Mad Max and The Road Warrior are TRUE car movies, unlike The Fast and the Furious movies (except maybe the third one in some parts) and that Nicholas Cage Gone in 60 Seconds crap. They depended too much on CGI for their stunts and camera angles. The Mad Max films used REAL cars, with cameras pointing at them AS THEY WERE DRIVING! These movies are classics, in my opinion, and are up there with Conan the Barbarian, for old school action.

BUT, I'm not much of a Thunderdome fan. Maybe the first act, but the rest of the movie is boring, and the final act is recycled from The Road Warrior, with a train instead of a truck.

Thunderdome had some cool stuff in it. I hated all the prophecy crap and the kids. When will Hollywood learn? Never, EVER put kids in sci-fi/action films! You have to slow everything down and explain everything to them and comfort them and keep track of them. It's all so tedious.

And yes, Tina Turner was HOT-TUH in that film.

I seem to remember seeing a documentary (probably on the Mad Max special edition DVD, but I'm not sure) that the car was something made in Australia, and is a genuine car (though tricked out obviously). If I recall right, it was mentioned that there wasn't a whole lot of them made, and thus they have become rare over time. The popularity of the Mad Max movies have obviously turned them into collector's items.

Thump -thump....thump-thump....thump-thump....

"The Road Warrior" was the film that introduced me to Beta Hi-Fi stereo sound.

In those days VHS had that crappy Dolby Stereo--which was no better than cassette tape sound with Dolby Noise Reduction. But Sony came up with AFM stereo recording using the video heads.

I remember listening to that opening sequence when Mel pushes "the supercharger" button and rams the car in front of him. Awesome!

Speaking of stunts...I still remember that sequence where the woman warrior got shot with the arrows and the bad guys pull her off the rig...you can literally see her body fall...and then seemlingly get run over by the rear wheels of the big rig.

Nasty stuff.

Oh yeah...those were not "bullets" ...they were shot gun shells....

I'm not a big Ford fan myself, but you better believe I'd own one of these given the chance (especially for the nostalgia factor ;))

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. My dad took me to see it when I was 11 and I made him take me back the next day to see it again. A great flick with no gratuitous kissing or love scenes. Who needs that?
