Well, as much as I hate to get rid of my UTV, I just bought I nice new 52" LCD and am going to get the new HR20 for HD service.

Do I need to either watch/dump to dvd everything in My Shows before cancelling the UTV service or will I still have access to them?

Thanks

To be safe, you should copy or watch them first. *If* the UTV gets the message that the UTV service has been canceled, you will only be able to watch the first 5(ish) minutes of any recording. OTOH, I don't know what would happen if you disconnect the satellite cables before cancelling the service.

It's actually 10 minutes, but really no one seems to know for sure what happens if you disconnect the UTV for the satellite before cancelling. It's been speculated the UTV needs to get a periodic "activation" signal, but will run for a few months before it needs it. One thing we do know is that the unit WILL go into demo mode upon cancellation of the service.

I'd dump your video off first, then cancel.

"I'd dump your video off first, then cancel."

and when you cancel take the UTV "Off line" (disconnect Sat Feeds) before calling to cancel.

As Network mentioned... exactly how long it may last isn't known... but it should provide you with an alternative way to access the Recordings for days,weeks,months... in case you need to watch them again.

Also, IF you ever decide to reactivate the UTV Service in the future the Recordings will remain on the Hard Drive and will be fully accessible when the access card is (re)activated.

I had a $50 Radio Shack UTV that had maybe 2 year old recordings on it that worked just fine when I activated it... (That UTV "died" about 2 months later... but still.)
