I don't know if this is the right section...but people here will likely know the answer. There is a Harkins 24 by my house with "1" dedicated DLP theater. I have a question about it. I did a search btw.

Do movie theaters usually display the movie on 35MM analog reels with a CRT projector?

In a DLP movie theater do they convert the movie to high resolution/HD digital? Or do they use the analog reels and it's displayed as digital? Somebody explain this to me please....or even post a link, that's fine (I couldn't find anything).

Don't know if this answers your question, but movie theaters use a lamp based projector and pass the 35mm reels through them frame at a time, just like the old home cine movies. CRTs aren't bright enough to light up a movie theater screen at those sizes and they would need to be fed analogue sources such as the movie converted to dtheater tape, DVD or HD for example (or even VHS but it wouldn't look too good).

Digital projectors have to be fed the movie in a different format too, so the movie is converted to digital just like they are for a DVD, only in a higher resolution format (I think talyer's link probably has more info there).
