View Full Version : How to control 2 Satellite boxes separately in the same room?

I have 2 Dish Network satellite boxes in my theater: ViP 622 and PVR 508.

The 508 is connected to the projector in my theater. The 622 is connected to an LCD in the next room (but it is set up in the audio rack in the theater room).

I have the Universal Remote RF20 and Expander so that I can control both receivers with RF (mainly for controlling the 622 through the wall in the other room.)

I want to be able to control both receivers independently. Right now, if I change the channel on one, it affects the other. I guess they both use the same code even though they are different models.

Is it possible to change the remote code on a sat box so that each box has it's own unique remote code?

There is such thing as remote control address - number between 1 and 16 - to prevent interference for VIP 622, manual, p.72. Try to play with that.

Yes, I think that's what I'm wanting - thanks!

It sounds like you have an MRF-100, which doesn't do addressing.

You need an MRF-250

Yes, I see that it does the IR routing which is exactly what I'm needing, but - I think it may be designed for the MX-800RFS remote. I'll have to contact Universal Remote to find out. I think what ptsenter suggested will also work. I tested it and it did allow each SAT box to be controlled by their respective remotes w/out interfering w/ each other, but I will need to re-program my remote to work on the new remote address. Thanks.

The RF20 can do address routing

OK, so I can use the RF-20 with the MRF-250 (or MRF-200 as well I'm assuming). That will work great if the other option ptsenter falls through. Maybe I can sell the MRF-100 on Ebay. Thanks for the info...

(I meant to say the other option ptsenter suggested falls through)

There's no such option in the menu to my knowledge. You need the MX-350 (as a minimum) to do address routing with an MRF-200 or higher.

Using the separate IR address for your 622 should solve the problem.

Hang on, isn't the RF20 the same as the MX-350? I haven't seen any differences in the two

The difference is the RF assignability (multiple base stations and individual emitters) and (as I recall) some additional macro capability on the MX-350.

Hm... I was wondering what the differences were.

Thanks for clearing that up. That really sucks. RF without addressability is useless IMO

Well everything is working perfectly by changing the remote IR address for each Sat box. Thanks all!
