There was a lot of talk about how loud the RS-1 would be. Can people comment on the noise level now that their are real projectors out there? Compared to a Ruby? Also, how is the heat output? Compared to a Ruby?

Thanks,

This would be best addressed in the owners thread.

The heat output isnt an issue nor is the nosie in the normal lamp mode. I have mine oh I'd say 18-24" above my chair and the noise isn't an issue even during quiet scenes. For refenrence my HD-A1 hd dvd player on my equipment rack shelf (so the soud is amplified a bit from the sides) is as loud as the pj and possibly louder since it is a higher pitched sound while the RS1 is low pitched. However, I do have it so the exhaust vent is in front of me and that is where the noise is heard so if you had the PJ behind you the noise would be a bit louder but I still don't think it'd be an issue...IMO that is

nothing compares to the heat output of the ruby that thing could heat a house :D we never turned on the heat in the theater when we had the ruby going, only the qualia gives off more heat

I don't have mine yet, but I was able to put my ear next to it at the EHX Expo last weekend.

I have no concerns now regarding sound. For me, at least, it's a total non-issue.

It was nice to see it finally. Always scary ordering sight unseen - although there are people I trust tremendously here for their advice/reviews.

I have my projector behind me and about 10 inches above my head. I cant understand how people say it is noisy, because i dont hear a thing, and my hearing is very good.

Some people are more sensitive to fan noise. Usually they are from an audio background where they are "tuned" to hearing anomolies. Personally I find that once I am watching a movie, I rarely notice it.
It's kind of like when a furnace kicks on...at first you notice it, but after about a minute it fades into the background.

Its like a wife talking to you about repainting her closets while you are watching the super bowl.

That will be enough noise to make me look somewhere else for a PJ. 8) I can block out the noise my kids make easily but that high pitched sound my wife makes when she is whining is not escapable. 8(

Yep.

To answer the question, it's about average or slightly quieter compared to most of today's PJs in normal mode. In high mode it's excessive IMO.

I don't know Mark, my wife talking about her latest purse purchase is more like a freight train going through my living room. :)

And you better take your eyes off the damn TV and pretend that you are interested or she will keep you LONGER.

Hell I buy her most the purses so that I already know about them...then I don't have to hear anything about it. :)

You guys are rank amateurs. Children.

Obviously, you have not mastered the tune out mode.

If trapped, you just mumble Uh, huh. OK. Sounds great. I love you.

You absolutely do not take your eyes of the screen. You keep staring at the screen while saying these things.
