I have 3 rooms i could possibly use to become my next HT... the HT will be composed of the following:
Hitachi PJ-TX100 projector(HD)
fixed screen(want a monstrous size like 150inch or so, will be silver flame or black flame light fusion[DIY mixes])
7.1 surround sound
Yamaha v659
logitech harmony 550
Scientific Atlanta explorer 8300HD, HD DVR(if it goes into den)

quick question- how will i hook up 4 xbox 360's at once to the projector for a halo system link situation??
*all pics were taken before maid arrived**apologize for the mess*

1) Den (wont be dedicated)
Pros to this room
- in main part of home
- large room
Cons to this room
- next to kitchen/garage/foir
- four sliding door which are basically 75% window each
- ambient light from foir (has 2 story glass black wall) and doors
- no noticed space available for concealing components

2) Basement (partly dedicated)
Pros
- lots of closets hidden in wood paneled walls allow easy concealing of components
- easy to work with space
Cons

- no heating vents in room and is cold during winter

3) 4th floor loft in Master bedroom (dedicated)
Pros
- far away+on its own level = easy sound dissipation
- perfect setting with track lighting and angeled ceiling
- already speakers in wall for front left and right channel
Cons
- possibility of ceiling leak(never happened before but always possible)
- no railing or such(eliminates use by young children)
- cold even with heat during winter
- if someone is sleeping in bedroom part, wont allow use of HT

I was going to say the basement with the size of the screen that you are looking for but after seeing the pictures of the den that would be my choice. looks like you have 2 nice walls to put a very large screen. go to projectorcentral for throw calculators for your projectors required distance from the wall for that size screen. The lighting in the loft looks hard to control and the the paneled room looks too small.

i was thinking the same thing about putting the screen against that large plain wall above the purple couch, but there are 4 gaint door/windows across from it and there will be so much ambient light?

My first HT went in my den which has one window directly across from it. I went to Meijer and bought a couple of their $30 curtains (about 3' wide) with I guess you could call them spaghetti straps (not solid band at the top) and hung them up overlapping. The individual looping at the top allowed me to start one curtain then the next and so on so they overlap. Basically double up the curtain on the same rod. This makes it very dark in there. I also hung the same curtain across the entry way which made a very nice entrance (and ambient light from front door). But I think the best thing we did was painted the whole room black. Every one loves the black walls. The ceiling is still white which gives enough reflection to find your way out of the room. Definately consider painting your room black.

This has nothing to do with the thread But imromo, Big Bens a joke! the Steelers are a joke. Whodey. Bengals own Pittsburgh.

Build your theater in the basement. The loft would be pretty sweet also.

agreen: Ok, I can't let that go. The obvious reply is at least the steelers can field a team, isn't half of the bengals in jail?

urban legend: Any more thoughts? What type of projector are you looking at? I am finding that most digital projectors drop off in brightness at around 110" and I want to go at least 125".
