Hi!
I've recently purchased my first home and I'm trying to plan the home theatre area in the living room and had a few questions.
The area is 13ft by 35ft (living room to dining room to kitchen) and has cathedral ceilings which peak at about 20 feet. The tv will be placed on a small wall (65inches wide) 12 feet away from the main couch.

My first question is whether or not the HSU VT-12's and a VTF-3 MK2 will be 'enough' to fill this area for movies, music and tv? If so, is this sub 'too much' for the speakers? I would love to get the HSU HB-1's but my canadian distributor can't get them.
Another question is, due to lack of space, the rears (only 2) will be on stands very close to the couch. Is having the VT-254 close the ears a bad thing?

One more thing, the tv will be on a unit 24in off the floor with the center on a shelf only about 10in from the floor. Is this too low for the center?

I will post a pic when I hit 5 posts!
Thanks very much!
Colin

I think that will work OK for a start. Having speakers close to the listening area means you get a nearfield situation, which is less diffuse (and requires a different speaker design) than typical "room" speakers. You might want to try some dipoles for your surrounds instead, to compensate for the nearfield placement.

The center can be 10" when the TV is 24"; that'll probably work. Watch out for floor bounce, though, which might muddy dialogue.

If the couch is in the middle of that area, then you'll be doing well, because lots of space behind the listener is important. Add some room treatments (bass traps, panels, or diffusers) while you're at it. There are lots of threads here and in the custom room forum about that topic.
