I bought a bass CD which had a "May damage speakers" sticker on it. When I played it on my home audio I unhooked the speakers so just the sub was playing it.
In the car, how do I disable the speakers so they wont be damaged when playing the CD, besides unplugging them? Also, can the bass cd even damage the speakers? For those of you that play loud bass cds in your car do you just leave the speakers alone? They are CTD 6.5" components.

It would depend on a couple things...
1 - Do your speakers have a crossover (active or passive)? If so, you should have no worries (if it's done right).
2 - How loud are you going to play it? If you don't play it too loud your speakers will be fine.
3 - If your amp is clipping then you could blow your subs as well.
When I have put in bass cd's (haven't done that for quite a few years) my setup was fine, but that is because I had crossovers on my full range speakers so they don't play any low bass (basically just a bass filter taking the bass out).
Hope this was helpful.

What Matt said. If everything is crossed over and setup right, it's just like playing a normal cd. I listen to a lot of bass heavy rap and Bass Mekanik type stuff all the time.

Also, I like to use a steep x-over slope on my subs. I have them crossed over at 80hz with a 24 db slope. So every octave over 80 it's 24 dbs down. Subs sound much much cleaner, though YMMV.
