View Full Version : Diff Remotes operate 2 diff units?!

I have a Zenith DVD\VCR Combo, and recently added an LG DVD
Recorder. My problem is that the Zenith Combo's remote also operates
(tries to operate) the LG DVD Recorder and vice-versa.

So..when I try and use either specific remote, the other unit is affected.
eg - trying to adjust tracking on the VCR using the VCR remote, causes the
DVD Recorder to adjust it's set-up. Responses by each unit to the other remote
seems to be fairly random - ie the other remote's function does not match
the other unit's function.

Is there a way to "separate" these two remotes so I can operate the
units individually?

I did not "program" the remotes when I unpacked the units - they just
worked automatically....

I sometimes think this is a practical joke and someone is watching me
trying to shield the one unit from the other's remote....

Unless either component can use an alternate set of IR codes, you'll have to seperate them. IF one of the components has a way to use an alternate set of IR codes, you can change that device. It's rare for devices to support more than one set of codes though.

I have the same problem, a Zenith VCR/DVD combo player and a LG HD Tuner/DVD Player (LST-3510A). The two units seem to share the power on/off and dvd eject codes. I did some limited research and I couldn't find anyway to modify either unit to ignore the other units IR codes.

I have solved it by using a Harmony 890 remote and using two separate IR flashers (you get 4 separate channels on the RF to IR box). Its an expensive way to solve this problem, but I needed a remote that didn't need to be pointed at anything for any length of time and the high WAF of using activities.
