Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else in the Denver area is having issues picking up HD stations. I just recently bought a JVC HD radio and noticed today that I could not pick up any stations at all in HD. I have also noticed that in the morning or in the evening I have the same issue sometimes.

Just trying to figure out if I have an issue with the radio or if the stations do not broacast in HD all the time.

Thanks

Brian

update: I just checked again and as of 3:45pm I was receiving them again. Including the AM stations which I was never able to get before.

Found part of my answer (via wikipedia):
To reduce nighttime interference problems with other stations, HD Radio can only be used during the daytime on AM at present.

Brian,

This morning I am receiving all 14 Denver FM stations that broadcast in HD, including 12 HD2 streams. Also, I am receiving three solid HD signals from Fort Collins; two more are "trying" to come in but are too weak to lock; ditto for KCME in Colorado Springs.

Occasionally, one or more stations interrupt their HD signals, but they are becoming more reliable. It is rare that more than one or two HD signals are off-air at the same time. Did you move your radio or change your antenna configuration? Since HD signals are inherently weaker than analogue signals, a slight change in conditions can make the difference between good reception and none at all.

I get very poor reception on AM, so I can't comment on whether those stations are transmitting in HD. Several of the AM stations listed as HD on the iBiquity website have never broadcast in HD, as far as I can tell.

By the way, I just read that the FCC has scheduled a vote next Thursday (22 March) on IBOC (HD) rules. One of the issues to be decided is whether to permit nighttime HD broadcasts on AM.

P.S. I just reviewed your post and realized that you are using a JVC radio, which I presume is an automobile model. In that case, I guess that you regularly "move" your radio and don't have much control over the antenna. It sounds as if terrain variations may explain the intermittent nature of your reception.

I'm also getting all of the FM stations in Denver, along with Ft. Collins. For AM, I'm receiving 630, 760, 850, 900, 1340, and 1590 in HD. I'm not mobile though, using an Accurian.
