TV predictions: That’s the view of a consultant to Paramount Home Entertainment, which is backing both the Blu-ray and HD-DVD high-def formats.

TWICE magazine reports that Vito Mandato, the consultant, yesterday told an industry conference that Blu-ray could win the battle over its rival in the next three or four months. He said Blu-ray’s studio supporters will likely release several major movies during that time period that will give Blu-ray a major advantage.

“When you recognize the total box office for all of last year was $9.4 billion, people are going to want those (big titles),” Mandato told the DisplaySearch Flat Panel Display Conference in San Diego. “If the Blu-ray camp can use the power of these and some of the other new releases over the next three or four months, they could win it all.”

Per the link, a consultant who has a relationship with Paramount said that. That is not the same thing as a Paramount spokesperson, or Paramount senior management saying it. Interesting none-the-less, but the title is deceptive.

No, no, no....Don't you get it?

I heard from the cousin of the brother of the dude who delivers the candy/soda to that machines at Universal say that it's all over for HD DVD and that Universal was going neutral as of 4/1/07. :D

Trust me, Paramount heads don't have to look very far to see that Blu-Ray is leading and has the momentum. Even tomshardware who is in the back pocket of Microsoft and has not given Blu-Ray a fair shake has written an article called "Will HD-DVD be dead in a year"

http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/03/15/hddvd_bluray_cebit/

The writing is on the wall and even the strongest HD-DVD supporters I know have already started buying Blu-Ray much more than HD-DVD. If Universal see's they are missing out on profits, they will go neutral faster than Speedy Gonzales can say Ariba ariba andale andale ariba....

Agreed. My point was simply that a paid consultant who sometimes works for a company does not speak authoritatively for the company.

I don't think assayer was questioning the validity of the statement, just the fact that we see a lot of FUD here from, ahem, dubiously qualified sources.

This is why I tried to put a little lighthearted spin on it. ;)
