I'm really not sure where to post this but .........

I just received my Motorola dct6416 hdtv/dvr tuner. I have a dual monitor setup on my computer each monitor has its own dvi cable.

I want to use one as a tv hooked up to my dct6416 box and one hooked normally to the computer.

The box only has a hdmi output so I bought a hdmi to dvi converter and hooked the box to my monitor. I could see the tv but right after the box showed "please use connector bXXXXXX" .

Is there anyway to hook this box to my dvi monitor so I can use it as a tv?

Thanks in advance.

You need a display that is HDCP compliant, most likely your PC monitor isn't.

If the display can accept an analog RGB signal (has a DVI-I input), you could get a transcoder to convert the component output from the STB to the monitor then use a DVI to RGB converter to hook it up. If not, your pretty much SOL.

And the monitor would likely have to be capable of handling either a 720p and/or 1080i input signal. I tried connecting my Motorola DCT 6412 III to a HDCP compliant monitor a few months ago, did a little research and came to the conclusion that it just wouldn't work. BenQ has a couple of monitors out there (FP241) that are HDTV capable (maybe there are some other brands now), but most current computer monitors don't claim to be HDTV compatible.

You might be able to hack something together with some converter boxes, but at that point you're into hundreds of dollars, and IMHO not worth it.

It'd probably cost the computer monitor makers < $5 to put in the circuitry/software for this, but unless people are asking for it, it's not going to happen.
