Hey folks,

I would really like to setup some sort of home theatre but am working with limited space.

Below is the layout, hopefully most of you can make sense of this.

Room A.

Entrance to Kitchen/Dining area and family room.

Room B.

Ideally, I would like to put the TV in Room A. We currently have started working on Room B and would like to keep it as is if possible.

That being said, if I do put the TV in room A, would it make more sense to put it on the left or right side? Putting the TV on the left will definately give us more space if we mount a flat panel on the wall, but then where would we put the speakers? I was really hoping to setup some floor standing speakers along with a center channel. Unfortunately I do not think this would be possible if the TV was on the left side of the room (unless the speakers were placed where x's are which seems a tad awkward). If I were to put the TV on the right side of the room this would clearly limit my viewing space but would allow for easy placement of speakers (according to http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html ideal viewing distance for a 50" TV is less then 10ft).

As you can see what I am workign with is difficult but I would really like to make the best of it.

Hopefully some of you could make some suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Dave

You should use Google Sketch-up for better and to-scale drawings. This will give the guys on AVS Forums a better understanding with what you are trying to accomplish. With that said my living room is similar to the size of Room A, I'll put up a picture of my setup later when I get home.

Thanks for that tip, I've never heard of sketch-up and I'm downloading it right now.

This might help clarify what I am trying to explain. As you can see the room is now empty. I will likely remove the wood trimming and lights and put the TV in this space.

Any other opinions?

I would put the tv there as well, measure the distance and place your couch there.

Here's my tiny living room that serves as a room to watch TV and Movies, listen to Music, eat meals and a gather place when friends come over.
