greyrocket 03-17-07, 01:22 AM well got it tuesday watchted it bit rate was high for a 25gig seemed to be around 30-40 most of the time so after watching it. has 2 seral numbers on the back of the disc anybody check for them selfs. this has to be a bd50 snuck in .thought the movie looked really good. not as good as casino royale but this movie had no grain or noise that i could see
BOSS10L 03-17-07, 01:31 AM Have it but won't watch it until later tonight. It was either that or Kingdom of Heaven, so of course KoH won out. :D
greyrocket 03-17-07, 01:35 AM how is Kingdom of Heaven i all most bought it from amazon few days ago is it that good?
BOSS10L 03-17-07, 09:58 AM Yes, worth every penny. PQ/AQ are excellent, and the movie itself is stellar.
I found it too preachy (KOH, that is). Sold it on Ebay 2 weeks ago.
However, I'll say this much...Eva Green (Bond girl from Casino Royale) looked great in the movie!!
Slept through most of the Holiday...my wife thought it was excellent.
oh dear.
i don't like the PQ on this disc much. no idea whether the look was intended, but it did nothing for me.
the contrast seems really out of whack. hd digest says - it's like looking through a pair of tinted sunglasses - which i agree - i think the contrast issue takes away any "pop" the image could have. it's so dark as well (connected to contrast?) ... i started to think there was something wrong with my projector. everything just seems so lifeless and dark(ish) - even the sunny scenes in LA. again, no idea whether this was intentional, but if it was, why would anyone shoot a movie like this ... like this ?
and to add to the list, it seems a little soft as well (intentional or filtered) ?
compared to stranger than fiction (other recent sony title), this is a wash out.
file me under "disappointed".

I thought it looked very soft. Disappointed here as well.
vassili 03-24-07, 03:43 PM do yourself a favor and don't see it. this movie was so bad it was hilarious. if you are a man with an ounce or testosterone, you will fall asleep within 10min. it's srsly the sappiest, corniest hack movie i've ever seen in recent memory, even for a chick flick.
My Wife loved this movie...

I saw the regular DVD and it was the same way, very soft and drab looking. Excellent movie though, just wish it would have not been so lackluster in the PQ department.
thanks for all the responses backing up my observations. so i'm not nuts. excellent news.
just looked at this disc again with a fresh pair of eyes (and after seeing casino royale) and ...
this disc (or HD master) is very seriously fcuked. i've never seen HD disc look like this. i'm not a tech expert on such matters, but it looks like someone cranked the contrast down to nearly it's lowest setting. that's the best way i can describe it. even in a completely darkened room (which i wasn't in before), this looks really washed out and really, really dark. i can barely make out the picture at some points.
but it is strange that some people find this disc ok and some don't. mixed views. i wonder if the first batch were screwed up and sony secretly fixed the aforementioned screwing up, and hence the contrast (!) in views. can't explain it otherwise.
and if the DVD is the same way, i wonder if there was a general screwing up of the HD master (which the DVD would have been derived from). i can't for the life of me believe this film was shot this way. it couldn't have been. in a dark room i'm struggling to make out the picture (and that's even in a interior daytime scene). that's not right.
