I called and specifically asked why my local Blockbuster doesn't carry BD. I was told this by the manager: "Our owner doesn't even want to discuss BD right now. He outright refuses to even entertain the idea of buying another format."

Our Hollywood Video has been giving me the run around as well. "Well, we were supposed to start stocking BD in December, but we haven't received our shipment yet." I was told this last week (second week of March).

Wonderful.

he is most likely not gonna answer your question cause he knows as soon as he does we are gonna call or go their (if someone lives locally to it) and most likely find out his lying. (reason i suspect he has ignored the question)

I called the 5 nearest Blockbusters and the 3 nearest Hollywood Video's from me and none of them carry Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

Sorry late to respond.....
please call so you can feel like a asshat for calling me a fake..
and yes BR has now expanded to two HUGE sections while they have completely downgraded the HD DVD side at least at this location where I live

At times since my local BB first started stocking HD-DVDs and BD, their selection of BDs had as much as about a 3:1 advantage over HD-DVDs. Now they're about equal, and they still suck for getting in new releases of both formats. But I didn't feel the need to start a thread about it...

So since they stock 10 more BR titles then HD titles they are "phasing" them out?

I have three BBs in my area, only one of which has HD and BR titles. Up to last week, the amount of shelf space at that store for each type was equal in size. However, last week the amount of shelf space for BR was increased at the expense of HD titles. The # of BR titles also increased while HD titles stayed the same.

Gee, I wonder if it has to do with the lack of new releases in the HD camp in the past 2 months? No...that would be no reason

I agree. Anybody have any luck with BD at Hollywood Video nationwide?

I'll never understand renting. Why spend 5 or 6 bucks to rent a movie for a couple days when you can own for around 20 bucks. Youre most likely to rewatch it at least a few times eventually. And if you absolutely hate the movie and you have to get rid of it then sell it on ebay and youll make most of your money back and it will be cheaper then renting.

Why spend $20 on something you may hate? Who wants to go through all the trouble of putting it on ebay, selling it, shipping it etc.?

HD Disc sales - UK
October Nov Dec Jan Feb Total
Blu-ray 148 492 1194 1174 1150 4,158

Just in case anyone was wondering what a ton of HD DVD discs amounted to - just over 20,000.

Apparently Blu-Ray has won over here in American due to the same amount of lead.

Having more then 75% of all HD content sold is pretty damn good.

I agree, but why spend $20 on a movie you're going to watch once?

I'll buy Casino Royale, but there are certainly movies I would watch once and wouldn't spend $20 on.

In the UK HD is selling a ton of titles and BR is non-existant.

In EUROPE a couple thousand standalones, of both formats, have been sold in TOTAL.

In other words HD-DVD will be completely swamped once PS3 launches.

Except that once PS3 comes, by May 2007, BD will overtake HD-DVD in UK... what happens then? Are you going to start comparing sales in Trinidad & Tobago...?

No, I'm simply stating as of right now BR is non-existant in the UK.

Once Sony has some decent games coming out watch BR sales decline.

Wow. This thread went sideways fast.

So. Cal. Murrieta California - just South of Ontario, CA and North of San Diego, CA.

Local Hollywood Video is a "test store" for Blu-Ray and HDDVD. Decent selection say 30 or so of each. Some new releases every week or so.

Local Blockbuster - just got X-Box 360. NO HD. The owner apparently prefers bibilical themed movies and "foolscreen" version of every DVD he can find.

Hollywood - my only rental store in the High Def. world.

Blockbuster - who?

No, I'm simply stating as of right now BR is non-existant in the UK.

Once Sony has some decent games coming out watch BR sales decline.

Based upon the assumption that:

People in the UK will lose interest totally in BR after launch
new ps3 sales (worldwide) after launch will not generate BR sales
gamers will suddenly not want to buy movies once games out
BR standalone sales will not play a major impact in BR sales for 2007

Not saying whether I think you're right or not, but those are several big assumptions.
