If you can get it tune to 13-1 out of Baltimore. Game is in HD. I too thought it was an issue with the national feed (I was watching 9-1) until I tried 13-1.

Xavier did not play smart. The coach of Xavier did not instruct his players
to foul in the closing seconds of the game, and the players did not have the wherewithall to make that decision themselves.

With under five seconds to play, Ohio State would have been at
the line down by three rather than hitting a
three-pointer to tie the game. Further, Ohio State had
great three-point shooters to take that last shot.

And the announcers didn't even mention the strategy or
lack thereof. So what else in new?

It is most likely because the Dallas station is broadcasting the constant feed which is SD so you will not get switched to the Butler-Maryland game. Conversly since I am in Indianapolis I am getting the Butler game in SD. Your HD will be back after the A&M game.

You may experience the same pain tomorrow for the Texas game. Emphasize the word may. We have been told by our local CBS engineer that the Indiana game will be in HD tonight.

SRIBB - If you get Ch. 80 on D*, tune to that - you can see A+M/Louisville in HD b/c New York is flexed into it. (i'm in dallas also and haven't touched channel 11 b/c it's showing the SD constant feed of A+M).

Same goes tomorrow during the TExas game, provided New York shows that game. Cna't see why not because of Durant's star power.

OK, I was a little miffed getting BC/Gtown in SD, but I figured it was because here in Boston we'd get the "constant feed". But now they just broke away to the Lville/TAMU game, first in SD, then flipped to HD.

Anyone know why CBS goes blurry all the time... seems like every time they cut to a new
game or to the studio it's blurry and then slowly comes into focus. I've noticed this in the
NFL and College Football games also... something to do with their production trucks and/or
cameras maybe? Other networks don't do this... and it's pretty annoying...

Well, KCBS has someone manning the switch again today. Michigan St/NC was in SD (even saw a slide that said "Sacramento Constant" at one point) - when it came time to switch to the UCLA game, the HD backhaul came up, initially with no voiceover, then with Greg Gumbel's voice overlayed with the HD picture, then silence before switching to the game announcers.

As was the case last night, no scorebar along the top since this is the backhaul. (SD analog feed has the scorebar, of course.) Also, hard transitions into commercial breaks when they throw the switch.

Will be interesting to see how KCBS handles halftime - SD or HD?

Just noticed: if they have the NY announcer voiceover with the sponsors, that's in SD, then KCBS does a hard switch to the HD backhaul.

Despite assurances from the engineer at our local CBS affiliate that we would get the IU-UCLA game in HD, we have been getting it in SD. In fact it took them a couple of minutes to switch from the Mich State-UNC game on their digital channel so we missed the start of the game.

Read an article from a New Zealand publication, and this first line made me do a double-take:
Tall Black Craig Bradshaw enhanced his NBA prospects as he led Winthrop University to their first ever victory in the NCAA Tournament, a 74-64 upset of Notre Dame University.

then I found this at wikipedia:
The Tall Blacks is the nickname of New Zealand's national men's basketball team. The name was chosen as it reminds people of New Zealand's Rugby Union team, the All Blacks.

Thank goodness.

The idiots here in Evansville, IN at WEVV decided to leave the TN VA game with 2 minutes left to go to the Purdue game. How ignorant can you get???

From HD to SD, tight game to just started game, game with local interest (Bruce Pearl coached in Evansville at University of Southern Indiana) to game with less local interest. Not only that, I attempted to call in and they've apparently got their phone off the hook, all busy signal.

Plus, NCAA MMOD has *both* games marked as blackout so I can't see the game at all.

Doh, and now CBS has taken the "constant" feed of the Purdue game and gone to the TN VA game but since WEVV switched to the constant feed, the TN VA game is now in SD. These guys are complete incompetents!!

Neil Best, Newsday
SPORTS WATCH

March 20, 2007

Yo, sports announcers of America: Listen carefully, because I'm only going to say this once.

I don't like to repeat myself, and I really, really don't like to shout.

STOP YELLING AT ME! NOW!!! I MEAN IT!!!!!

Yeah, Gus Johnson, that means you. (And you, too, Kevin Harlan, Mike Patrick, Gary Thorne, Dick Vitale and the many other bellowers whom duty calls on me to invite into my personal space.)

Give Johnson credit. He pulled off the TV feat of the week. Somehow he was able to call Sunday's Knicks-Raptors matinee game on MSG after spending all day Saturday screaming so loudly in Lexington, Ky., that CBS should have yanked away his microphone and just flung open the doors of Rupp Arena.

As often happens when Johnson is excited, it was not clear precisely what he said after Ohio State's Ron Lewis sank a tying three-pointer with two seconds left in regulation against Xavier. After a dozen listens, it might have been, "Makes it! Ooooh!"

It was reminiscent of his frothing at the mouth late in last year's UCLA-Gonzaga regional final and after the Knicks' David Lee tipped in a buzzer-beater in the second overtime against the Bobcats in December.

Johnson and Dan Bonner would have been better off conserving energy to discuss pertinent stuff such as whether Ohio State's Greg Oden should have been called for an intentional foul in the final seconds.

Or why Xavier's Sean Miller became the latest in a long line of college and pro coaches to commit hoops hara-kiri by refusing to foul an opponent with a three-point lead and the clock winding down. Sigh.

Anyway, you do have to admire Johnson's enthusiasm, even if his volume dial too often is turned to 11. And some viewers will miss him in the Sweet 16, where James Brown (whose play-by-play is a tad raw) has replaced him on the CBS depth chart.

Interestingly, Johnson is regarded as a play-by-play demigod in some corners of the blogosphere and is generally more popular among young fans than geezers. (Vitale, the original Old Yeller himself, is wildly popular on college campuses.)

No surprise when you think about it. Those of us with spouses and children hear enough yelling in real life. We don't need our sports TV friends piling on.

The late Curt Gowdy said he tried to call a game as if he were in the stands with a friend, poking him in the ribs when something interesting happened. He never said anything about howling into his ear.

So give me the silky professionalism of still-going-strong Verne Lundquist, 66, and another venerable old-school voice, Dick Enberg, 72, each on duty this weekend. The understated Jim Nantz, too.

So what if CBS has a Sweet 16 announcing lineup with demographics more suited to "60 Minutes" than to March Madness. Its volume dial tops out at 9, and for that I say a hearty, howling:

THANK YOU!
