View Full Version : Java error message with RF extender
JCNPLUMBING 03-17-07, 06:04 PM I can't update because of a problem with java. My research tells me its some conflict with java, Windows and Active X. I keep getting a java error message when I try to down load my settings to the extender. I have tried many things, without success. If anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful.
Jeff
pwrmetal 03-17-07, 06:16 PM What brand of remote/extender?

Harmony 890 with rf extender.
pwrmetal 03-19-07, 09:55 AM I had this same problem. It turns out the remote language for my receiver (Pioneer 1015) was too large for the RF extender to handle. I called tech support and they modified things (via compression I assume) so the RF extender could handle it. I suggest you call their support, though it will probably result in a frustratingly long wait.

Thanks for the reply. I did call them and they told me to update my java. It didn't solve the problem. Then I went and goggled, and found related problems on the internet. You might be on to something because the reason I was updating it was because I added a Dish VIP622 DVR. It updated the remote when I said that I control devices with my remote (IR). What I'll try is removing the Dish DVR and see if it updates. After I try that I will post back.
Thanks, Jeff
JCNPLUMBING 03-19-07, 10:58 AM I removed the activity, device and got the same java error message. This was talked about here briefly at one point but the person with the problem just tried it again and it solved itself with really no answer.
JCNPLUMBING 03-19-07, 12:55 PM I went to the Harmony forum and it seems to be a bug in the software.
pwrmetal 03-20-07, 10:15 PM JCN, I would make sure you let Logitech tech support know you still have the problem. This should get you elevated to tier 2 support (which I had) and hopefully they can get you straightened out.

I think I'm going to do that. As I said I tried to resolve the problem on 3 different computers at home. Last night I tried it on a friends computer with the same error message. It seems if it was a java problem that one of these computers wouldn't have the problem. The first 890 I got had a bad extender, maybe this went bad too. Did you have this problem?
Thanks, Jeff
pwrmetal 03-23-07, 02:03 PM It's probably an issue with the extedner not being able to process the commands for one (or more) of your devices. Generally when you get tier 2, they can watch the update fail as it happens and they know what the problem is. It takes a bit of time to get to tier 2, but they will hopefully be able to help you.
Oh and I would be sure to let them know you've already called before and they were unable to help you. That will hopefully get you tier 2 help sooner rather than later.

Thanks. On the Harmony forum at this link a java programmer says its Harmony's software problem. Sorry I don't know how to highlight the link so you can click on it.

pwrmetal 03-24-07, 09:46 AM Well, the poster rmorano from that thread has the EXACT problem I had, and could get it taken care of if he calls support. It's annoying, but better than waiting around for harmony to patch the software and hope it gets fixed.

Well guess what? I went to my Harmony remote site and as it was loading as it does, it showed 1 of 23 updates or something like that. When it was done I went to my settings and updated the remote and everything went perfect. I wish they would have said we are having software problems and will take care of it as soon as we can, instead of saying I have a java problem.
Thanks for your input,
Jeff

If it wasn't resolved I definitely was calling customer support. Thanks!
