Most MSOs already pass the YES-HD signal when available. Outside of Yankee regular season and Nets home games, YES simply offers no HD programming. The only NY RSN offering any HD content outside of home games is SNY.

YES Net to Launch High Def Channel

Anthony Crupi

MARCH 15, 2007 -

YES Network on April 1 will launch a standalone high-definition channel, which will carry all New York Yankees home and away games in the 1080i HDTV format.

The regional sports network has secured carriage for YES HD with its largest distribution partners, including Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cablevision and DirecTV, guaranteeing that 95 percent of the network’s legacy audience will be able to access the new channel.

Along with its slate of 128 regular season Yankee games, YES HD will also televise its slate of New Jersey Nets contests in the format, as well as all of YES’ studio programming.

The launch neatly coincides with the fifth anniversary of YES, a milestone that finds the net beginning to redefine itself as a digital media property, said senior vp of ad sales Steve Berman.

“Beefing up our digital presence is definitely helping us to increase our ad sales dollars, but we’re also looking at it as a way to track down new clients,” Berman said.

Among the new wrinkles YES has in store for its Web site in 2007 are highlight clips from each Yankee game, as well as a new feature called “Post-game Plus,” a collection of regularly updated studio analysis and locker-room interviews.

YES sponsors that have added digital to their media buys include Chevrolet, Infiniti, Ford and Toyota, as well as the stolen-vehicle recovery system, LoJack.

Back on the linear front, Chevrolet has also signed on as the exclusive season-long sponsor of YES’ interactive player-of-the-game segment, which allows fans to text-message their votes for the most valuable Yankee at the close of every telecast. “It’s our biggest deal so far,” Berman said.

Toyota has anted up for a similar opportunity during Nets telecasts.

The Yankees open their season on April 2 in the Bronx, where they’ll meet the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

I guess that all depends on who your provider is. We have had a dedicated full time YESHD channel on Cablevision since January 1. The only thing on it in HD though are Nets home games. They are supposed to have studio stuff in HD starting April 1.

Comcast is adding YES-HD fulltime on 3/28 in NJ. It'll be on ch.212. However they're getting rid of an HDSE channel (ch.211). I guess this was done since YES will have more content in HD. So if you have Comcast in NJ, you should be in good shape.

False statement.
MSG and Fox Sports NY do broadcast select away games in HD.
Also select taped programming.
SNY does offer their studio shows in HD. Yawn ... lots of talking heads. All the highlights [except SNY Mets] are SD.

Nice! Great to get more away games. They had some last year (toward the end of the season), but this is great news.

Talking heads or not, SNY currently offers the most HD content on NY RSNs. SNY also broadcasts select away games in HD. It's great to see YES Network carry all Yankee games in HD for the 2007 season.

I forgot about the handful or so away games carried by MSG Networks. YES Network ranked dead last in my opinion for HD, but we'll have to see what happens after April 1.

P.S. Am I alone in preferring the YES's network identity (graphics package, logo, and programming), during the Hindrey years?

YES! :P
YES-HD looks awesome and I'm glad to see it will be around for the whole season. Now having a full-time NESN-HD channel won't make them the only HD baseball games every night.

SNY also broadcasts select away games in HD.

I have never seen any games on SNY in HD other then Mets home games, and Jets preseason games. Friday night they had college hockey that was produced in HD by NESN and even that was in SD.

Sweet I have been hoping the Yankees would have both home and away games in HD. I'll fully believe it when I see them make their first road trip and the game is in HD though.

What are you people talking about?

Over 1/3 of the Yankees road games were in HD last season!

They had a road HD schedule set from the start of the season (It was posted somewhere on this board.... it was mostly the regional road games, along with a select few others)
(In '05 they started doing road HD late in the season for nearby road games like Boston, Toronto, and Baltimore)

not just any HD road game, a west coast HD road game!
last year thier were no west coast HD road games, most of the road HD games were from east coast and central games.

I certainly haven't seen any HD schedule thus far for this season. I want the away game in High Def even when it is in Kansas City in say late July with about 10,000 people in Kaufman stadium, its fine and dandy when they play in the Division on the road, but out West and heck in Tampa Bay we'll see if it's HD too. :)

Will D* have YES-HD for MLB EI subs?

D* already has YES-HD full time. But as with any other RSN only in the New York market. If EI got you the Yanks games on Yes in SD last year then it's a good bet that it would get your Yanks in HD this year.

Kinda. ;) They went full time a few weeks ago, around when spring training started. I don't think it's "official" until April 1st but D* uplinked them early to work out any guide issues and such.

On the HR20 be sure that the HD version is in your channel listing if you're using a favorites list or else you won't see it. H20 has a similar UI so I'd guess the same thing would need to be done.

holy crap thanks man. i never would have realized this otherwise. here i was checking in on ch. 95, 96 and 97 every day like an idiot...

quick question: why are there THREE channels each on there for yes and sny? the first one is obviously the sd channel. the third one looks like the hd channel as i was just watching the hd news on sny. so what is the middle one for?

622- YES sd
622- YES ?
622- YES HD

625- SNY sd
625- SNY ?
625- SNY HD

My guess it an alternative channel but that wouldn't make much sense for either station. I know YES is supposed to have interactive features for Yankee home games on D* so maybe that middel channel is an interactive channel. Otherwise I have no idea.

Actually, an alternative channel makes sense for YES network. Early in the season and at the very end they end up with TV conflicts between Yankees and Nets. An overflow channel ends up getting used. For example, last week the Nets game was on regular YES up here in Albany and the yankees were on channel 3(which is time warner cables overflow channel). I know cablevision did the same thing putting the yankees on 14. It may be for instances like this.

YES Bulks Up Hi-Def Coverage
By Glen Dickson -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/19/2007 7:07:00 AM
Digg This | add to Del.icio.us

YES Network will now provide high-definition coverage of all New York Yankees games, both home and away, on YES HD, a new standalone HD channel that launches April 1. YES, which telecast its first HD game in 2004 and produced about two-thirds of Yankees games in HD last year, has secured carriage for the HD service on DirecTV as well as major cable operators Comcast, Time Warner and Cablevision.

YES HD will also feature all studio programs in HD, including pre- and post-game shows, “Yankees Batting Practice Today,” and select “Mike & the Mad Dog” shows, utilizing a new 1200-square-foot HD control room within its Stamford, Ct. headquarters. Beginning in late fall, YES plans to expand its high-definition offerings by providing high-definition coverage of the NBA’s New Jersey Nets home and away games throughout the 2007-08 season.

YES Chief Operating Officer Ray Hopkins says that YES is moving to HD to maintain its “gold standard” production values for regional sports coverage. He notes that YES HD also meets demand from affiliates who are “looking to have highly-rated products in HD in order to drive HD penetration.”

YES will also have the ability to deliver commercials in HD, though Hopkins isn’t sure what percentage of spots will be hi-def at launch. He notes that a small number of advertisers, including consumer electronics concerns like Sony, have run HD spots on YES in the past.

Starting with the Yankees home opener on April 2, YES HD will also offer “bonus cam” views and other interactive features, such as in-depth pitching and batting stats, through the YES Interactive on DirecTV service. YES Interactive, which relies on the processing power of DirecTV set-top boxes to generate the extra graphics, was only available in standard-definition last year.

New features for 2007 include in-game “Rival Alerts” that give frequent scoring updates on that longtime Yankees nemesis, the Boston Red Sox (unless they fall too far behind in the standings), as well as more in-depth “out-of-town scoreboard” statistics on other MLB games, including real-time situational updates on pitchers, batters and pitch count.

“Last year, you could scroll to the right and see who’s pitching, who’s batting and who’s on base,” says Hopkins. “Now for the same game, for example, you’re able to see that Texas has Mike James pitching, Boston has David Ortiz batting, and the count is 3 and 2.”

YES experienced strong usage for YES Interactive last season, as 42% of DirecTV viewers who had access to the service used it. Out of that subset, 82% used it more than once, and 25% used it 11 times or more.

If you look at the following chart of channels from SNY, they now list DirecTV as having the HD channel full time on channel 625. It used to say for DirecTV under HD that it was on channel 95 with an asterisk. The asterisck said that select games would be available in HD. It now says full time HD on channel 625.

with the newfound information i received today from the great folks here, i can confirm that sny hd is in fact full time in nyc on directv. i am VERY, VERY happy. they do a great job transitioning the sd/hd stuff as well. they have 2 sports news shows in hd that are repeated several times throughout the day. the highlight clips appear to be in hd as well (when available).

yes hd looks full time as well, but today they didn't show a single hd broadcast...

April 1st is when they should begin to provide a more indepth High Def. coverage the article mentions, moreover all Yankees home and away games will be HD also as well as all Nets home and away games next season. No RSN does that outside of NESN who does the Red Sox games in High Def at home and on the road to my knowledge while scouring the web. Prior to this announcement YES HD has never shown an HD content ouside of Yankees and Nets home games and some away games. That should all change or its an April fools joke. :)
