PLAY.com has sold out of Casino Royale BD.. but the interesting thing is that the PS3 hasnt even launched here yet. Considering that HD-DVD supposedly has 80% of the market in Europe thats quite an accomplishment, especially as Play would certainly have a decent stock in for the upcoming PS3 launch which have gone.

Actually, that seems very odd to me, since IIRC there is a copy of CR included with PS3s sold in Europe. Maybe they didn't have a large stock because they assumed a smaller market? Not that CR isn't going to break all HD disk records, but I wouldn't expect Europe to be the largest source of thst strength.

That's better.. :)

This is indeed interesting considering there is like 500K copies of this title being given away with PS3's in europe.. I wonder what the supply chain acutally got.

there is not a copy of the film included, you have to register your PS3 and they send you it like Spiderman 2 with the PSP. Maybe some people couldnt wait? Didnt know? Or already have Blu Ray players.

Spider-Man 2 UMD was included in launch PSP's, like how we got Talladega Nights right in the PS3 box.

If I was paying that much for a PS3 I would go and buy "Casino Royale" (or rent it if I could) so I could check it out with my new toy. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for people to get their "free" copy in the mail.

I was in Toronto this past Wednesday and the local Best Buy (near the Eaton Center) was completely sold out of the movie on DVD and Blu-ray and had no idea when more would be in. That i found impressive and makes me happy that i bought my copy the day before early in the morning at my local BB.

Anyways taht sucks you have to send way for your copy of the movie

I stand corrected. Then it is indeed impressive that sellouts are occuring before the hardware ships. I wonder what kind of numbers we are lookin at?

A friend was told Casino Royale Blu-Ray sold out at two Best Buys located near Ashburn,VA (Leesburg, and Sterling stores). He wanted to use his Reward Zone certificates so didn't check out other stores. I guess it might be the same in most stores as they normally stock very few in that format.

Seen quite a few tech magazines , tabloids advertising both the PS3 and CR on blu ray together, loks like sales are driving each other.
PS3 was front page on the T3 mag and it got a very positive write up.
CR seems to be selling well full stop.

For Europe, it could also posslibly be that since you could get one for free when you register, retailers didn't stock as many (as they would normally stock).

And maybe now they realize that people want to see this movie NOW, and not wait several weeks for their free copy to arrive.

and now for a lesson on perspective. i went to a local pizza shop once and they had a sign that said "voted best pizza in the county". the owner was there and i asked him about this "vote". he laughed and said his mother and his grandmother thought it was the best, so they voted and it was unanimous...

play.com could have had 10 copies of the title...

of course they could, but common sense dictates you have the most copies of stock that you will ever hold at one time for a launch, especially as there will certainly be an influx of Blu-Ray purchases. I just noticed too that the following are also sold out;

Casino Royale
Black Hawk Down
Into the Blue
Click
Talladenga Nights
Ultraviolet
Open Season
The Transporter
Tears of the Sun
and Hitch

all these are in the top 20 sellers charts and sold out at the moment.

Casino Royale is now #10 on Amazon's Top DVD Bestseller list. Thats pretty impressive considering how little the HD market is over there.

not sure how they are doing things in UK, but this is how things are gonna happen in Australia.

Attending a midnight launch for a new game or console usually involves hours of aimless waiting, but Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCEA) is making sure eager Aussie gamers camped out at Sydney's Pitt St Mall for next week's release of the PlayStation 3 are kept entertained.

The PS3 will be released in Australia on Friday, March 23, and SCEA will team up with retailer Myer to host the official PS3 midnight launch event. Myer will set up a large viewing space outside its store on Pitt St Mall, Sydney, New South Wales, and will hold a free public screening of Casino Royale, the latest James Bond movie. The film will be played directly from a PS3 and will begin at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22.

The entertainment won't stop there. Sydney radio personality Lizzy Lovett from 2Day FM will be the host for the evening, which will also include PlayStation-themed giveaways, free massages, and a chance to play the PS3 on the big screen.

Myer is also promising to give the first 100 people to buy a PS3 a free copy of the Blu-ray version of Talladega Nights. This means a lucky few will receive two free movies with their PS3, as SCEA is also giving away a copy of the Blu-ray version of Casino Royale to the first 20,000 Aussies who register their PS3s on the PlayStation Network.

The PlayStation 3's Australian release follows months after the console was shipped in the USA and Japan. Only the 60GB version of the PS3 will be available Down Under, and it will retail for A$999.95 ($792).
