View Full Version : Underscan feature on processors, should I buy a VP30?

I'm currently using my Sony XBR1 60" as a monitor for my PC. The main problem is that It tends to overscan a good 4% which is correctable with software. I'm considering upgrading my Geforce 7600 to one of the new 8800s, but hear that the new drivers don't offer scaling and is not compatible with Powerstrip. Even with newer drivers I would like to get an external scaler that will get rid of my overscan on other devices and serve as a HDMI switcher.

Having read the DVDO VP30 instruction manual I believe the underscan feature should be able to fix this problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but If I understand correctly this is one of the few features (along with a handy fourth HDMI in) that the VP20 lacks. Do any other video processor brands offer a similar feature? The only other feature that I'm looking for is 4 HDMI inputs, since the XBR1 only has 2, and I'm rather fond of my VSX-53tx receiver and would rather put $1000 towards a VP than a new HDMI receiver.

Upscaling is secondary since the new second generation of high def players are rumored on having amazing upconversion powers. With this in mind is the VP30 the best candidate for me? Do any of the other under $2000 video processors have the underscan feature?
