My installer said that if I get an OTA antenna, he'll hook it up/set it up, free. He seemed like a very friendly, willing to help kinda guy.

Do you guys have any suggestions on OTA Antenna? I can NOT mount it on my roof, so either on the ground, next to my D* or an indoor, possibly lay it in the attic? All stations are w/i 15 miles of me and my TV is right next to a huge bay window, so nothing in the way. Thoughts on the Radio Shack VU-90 XR (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?parentPage=family&pg=1&summary=summary&cp=2032057.2032187.2032189.2032205&productId=2103085&accessories=accessories&techSpecs=techSpecs&currentTab=features&searchSort=TRUE&custRatings=custRatings&features=features&y=9&s=A-StorePrice-RSK&x=12&support=support&tab=techSpecs)

Zenith Silver Sensor works quite well and costs around 35 dollars at certain retailers - and bring in good signal, sometimes one might have to manually adjust to optimize each station at times

sometimes the antenna has to be near a window - on the side where most of the stations are - which can mean a long co-ax run, othertimes directly from the settop will work

Hard to access attics can be a problem because you cannot readily adjust it its not omni-directional

when we got or first HD set 5 to 6 yrs back and there was no CABLE or SAT HD sations - we used a $1.99 radio shack rabbit ear antenna (in a bin at the store) and utilized the UHF portion

Around yr 2001/02 - no one much cared or knew much about HD and radio shack figured reuglar antennas were useless - so they were almost giving them away

we set it up in snowstorm outside with a 30 ft coax run on an upside trash barrel and it froze on top - and the local PBS HD came in crystal clear with all kinds of european travel shows etc - it felt like we entering a new age - because even the local retailers were not even running HD -except rarely as-they had few if any sources

If you post your zip code, we can provide some more accurate advice. For starters, two of the digital stations on your list are broadcasting on upper VHF channels 8 & 9. The Silver Sensor is a UHF only indoor antenna, so at a minimum you should look at a Silver Sensor combined with a VHF rabbit ear antenna. The Terk HDTVi sold at Best Buy combines a Silver Sensor with rabbit ears.

You are not that far away from the stations. So long as you are not down in a valley or low elevation, I would start with an indoor antenna setup. The Radio Shack VU-90XR is likely much more than you need, even if you go with placing the antenna in the attic. But post your zip code so we can see exactly what your stations are. Without an active local thread for Amarillo - you may want to start one (save the first couple of posts for summary information that you can go back and update, see the Chicago OTA and Washington-Baltimore threads for good examples of this), it will be tricky to find out whether all the stations are at full power on the digital signal or not.

Bad idea.

The Silver Sensor is a UHF only design. Two close DTV stations are on VHF. The NBC digital UHF station is too weak for any indoor antenna.
