Let the countdown begin :)

Ok, I'll bite... :)

Can we ask questions?

In other words, since it's in the BD software section, are we correct to assume that this has something to do with a highly anticipated release of a big hit film or hit TV show?

In my opinion, the word legendary implies a time element... The only film that has been hinted for Blu-ray release that defines that word is "Lawrence of Arabia."

If I was not already neutral, that film alone would have made me buy into Blu-ray. Any self-respecting film fanatic should have that film in their top 10 list.

My god, we're just having some fun. Chill out, pop open a beer, and relax. The way some people act around here, you'd think they have their entire life savings tied to the outcome of the Hd optical disc war (and war of the words on this forum).

If I had to guess, I would say Sony may give us a release date for Lawrence of Arabia, which would be sweet. I have the Superbit, but would love to replace that with a nice BD-50.

Sony is re-releasing the old Limited Edition set for a 5/8 release. Perhaps the BD debuts on the same date? They are also re-releasing Bridge on the River Kwai on the same day. I'd certainly take a BD version of that.

Josh Has Spoken!!!!

Esox50
03-18-07, 01:24 PM
Given everything that Josh has said, I'm guessing that we're going to see him scoop some sort of press releases whereby we're going to find out that either a.)the works of a legendary director or b.)a widely popular film franchise with some age on it are/is heading to restoration. From this, new HD elements will be produced for an eventual BD exclusive release.

I may actually get a little inside information via Universal to pass on tomorrow!

My wife is meeting with their marketing heads tomorrow in NY City on the set of Bourne Ultimatum (actually, she is there today and will see and meet Matt Damon on the set). They are using cars her company is providing for the film.

So, of course, when she has her meeting I asked her to ask Universal's marketing head about HD DVD and when (if) they might go format nuetral. I met the woman last year and she was quite Pro HD DVD (as expected). Universal and my wife's company signed a multi year marketing deal that amonsgt other things included product placement.

Fortunately, my wife is aware of the format war and will know the right follow up questions.

Considering the format war is already in Blu-ray's favor, this will probably further fortify their position.

I'm gonna stick with my Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge on the River Kwai getting BD announcements as the news. But I'd also be happy if it was Fox announcing all catalog titles will get priced down to $29.99.

Self editing? They put everything that went on the cutting room floor in the movie so i can edit the thing myself and watch the movie however i like.

how about an interactive feature that finds everyone watching the movie that you are now playing. Then you are able to all dis the movie with pop ups like they do on MTV ( i think it was MTV ).

mistery science theater 2000 fully interactive?

My guess is that certain Hollywood studios will be using Blu-ray technology to archive classic film assets, thereby paving the way for eventual BD release to consumers?

As good a guess as anybody, right?

Since Sony is releasing new versions of LOA, Kwai, and Navarone on SD soon, the speculation has long been that these are about to come out on Blu-ray as well.

He says it involves several "legendary films". These would clearly qualify.

check this out!
Legendary will co-produce and co-finance five to six films a year in partnership with Warner Bros. Studios during an initial five-year term. Pursuant to that, Legendary Pictures has established itself in the film industry by creating a portfolio of box office successes including Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Lady in the Water, We Are Marshall, The Ant Bully, and Beerfest. Among the company's 2007 releases are Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C. and Frank Miller's 300, directed by Zack Snyder. Future releases include Spike Jonze's film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic work Where the Wild Things Are, a film adaptation of Blizzard Interactive's World of Warcraft, and an adaptation of Milton's Paradise Lost, to be directed by Scott Derrickson.
