I've had UTV for 4 years now and love it. I have wondered lately though why D* still supports it. Who keeps the programming menu's up to date? How many people still have UTV? Haven't been able to buy new units for some time now.
Guess D* still makes money otherwise I would bet that they would drop the service. I have one HR 20-700 and experience all the problems that unit has, but I love the HD. My other TV uses the UTV service and never has any problems.

You answered your own question as to why the service continues. As far as the guide, that's a standard guide system D* uses placed inside the UTV interface.

As NetworkTV points out... The Program Guide is a standard that ALL DSS/DTV Units get... Some can get guide info for more then just a few days ahead.

The two week guide info... isn't actually part of the UTV Service. I have a "demo mode" spare UTV that is reporting up to two weeks worth of guide info tonight.

The UTV's DVR features are built in to the UTV and are simply turned "ON/OFF" by DTV along with your access card's permission to access specific local/national/premium channels.

So DTV isn't likely to discontinue support for UTV unless they abandon all of it's other existing receiver systems. Original DSS/DTV units from over 10 years ago are still in service today. When DTV grows out of it's existing system and starts moving people over to a new system... Then UTV will truly be dead.
