i just bought a olevia hd tv 32 in it does not have a qam tuner does anyone know about this tuner my friend about 20 miles away and a diff cable company bought a tosiba tv 1 week before i bought mine and he is able to pick up the hd channels i cant get them could it be because i dont have the qam tuner? any idea what i can do to get the hd channels

Antenna, cable co STB or get a different TV.

indoor atenna?if so any ideas on what kind i tried one from radio shack and nothing just like 4 channels hooked cable back up get like 70 channels pluse like 3 or 4 movies on like 116.4 channel. what is stb thanks

A cable converter is a set-top box (STB) and will provide all the channels on your cable system. CableCards are available for some displays, bypassing cable STBs but restricting some two-way cable services such as ordering PPV movies with a remote.

To get an antenna, it's useful to find where stations are located by going to antennaweb.org. For relatively nearby stations, the Silver Sensor, a book-size UHF-only indoor antenna that's highly directional, is popular; Radio Shack offers a 'double bowtie' model, too. Outdoor antennas are best. Once you know station frequencies, rather than running a general channel-scan, you can tune to one station, then point and manipulate an antenna to maximize the signal. -- John

If you got something on ch 116.4 on your TV via the cable setting the set already has a QAM tuner - some Olevias are like that - it doesn't say it in the specs but it does have a QAM tuner. Those movies you saw on 116.4 was probably the neighbor's PPV. ;)

If you receive channel 116.4 that means you have QAM tuner. Channels numbers will not match cable co because they use mapping. They can assign 9000 number if they want to. The highest channel you will see on QAM tuner is 135.

ok i think i getting tio understand alittle more when i get the channels 116.4 i may have a movie on it like hbo then ill aslo get like 116.2 and maybe starz and maybe 1 or 2 more but no hd local channels like abc , cbs ,nbc,espn and so on any ideas? also can i buy a converter box anywhere that will accept the cable that i have
