Sorry for the noobish questions - i tried searching but could find no specific answers. So here goes:

I have a Panasonic AX100 with a Toshiba HD DVD player and a Motorolla HD STB connected to it. The Motorolla box can output at 480i or 480p for SD and 1080i for HD but the deinterlacing is crap so I feed the projector 480i and let it scale and deinterlace to 720p (its native resolution). The results are still not great with SD (expected i guess) and I was considering the Gefen HT Scaler which would upscale the 480i from the STB to 720P. My first question is whether the scaling and deinterlacing from the Gefen would be superior to that offered by the projector or if I am just wasting money?? Does anyone know how the Panasonic scaling compares to a stand alone VP?

My next question regards the HD-DVD player. I am outputting 1080i from the player to the Panasonic and it looks pretty good. I guess the projector is then deinterlacing that signal and scaling it back to 720P? Would i be better to always send the projector a native 720p signal so no scaling is done or is that just personal preference?

Thank-you for your time and patience.

I can not answer your first question as I have no experience with the Gefen scaler...

I can answer your second question in that the best thing to do is to try both routes and see which one looks/works better noting that the best option is always to send a NATIVE 720p signal to your projector so that neither deinterlacing nor scaling occurs...
