I purchased The Descent on Bluray this weekend and watched it on my PS3 (HDMI to Denon 4806CI) and noticed alot of white artifacts on the darkest scenes. Did anyone else notice this? I tried it on Sony Vaio laptop and the same white artifacts show up.
I returned the disk to BB for replacement and the same thing. I am puzzled because the reviews were favorable.

You are seeing film grain, not artifacts. The Descent is grainy for a number of reasons, the two biggest being cheaper film stock (this was a low budget film) and dark scenes. The Descent is a great BD.

There are quite a few very jarring scenes of noisy blacks scattered throughout the otherwise great transfer. Almost as jarring as a few of the Miami Vice night scenes, but obviously not intentional.

I watche dit last night for the first time on BD and was very disappointed by the film grain. It was darn right annoying and ugly. I think I amy prefer the SD of this movie better.

I agree, ( no flames please).I rented the SD version from BB and played it in my Toshiba XA2 at 1080P on a 57" Samsung LCD and it looks a lot cleaner, not crisper just a ton less noise.

Yes, don't get me wrong this is one of my favs of 2006 so for me to say anything bad really hurts me but I really did think the BD transfer of this looked like crap with all that grain. I should have just kept it on SD. When it was black scenes it reminded me of watching attenae TV as a kid watching snow in the picture. So unfortunate. It would be great if there was a part 2. Some more brave cave dwellers please. Also not sure but I think noticed a couple things different in the BD movie compared to the SD but it could just be me losing my mind on third shift.

I saw what you where talking about when I watched a couple of weeks ago and it didn't look like film grain to me, I only saw it in the very darkest scenes and then only for a second but it looked like little white dots flickering across the screen.

Get used to film grain, as most movies will have it. The Descent is one of the best looking Blu Ray movies I've seen.

if you still can't find the information among the 200 posts specifically discussing the PQ of this transfer, then resurect one of the many existing threads that would have come up in a search.
