On behalf of another member I'm aware of, I'm providing a link to a thread on another forum (hope that's OK, Tom):

I have only see these pictures, but I believe he's got a blue LED rope light in that crown moulding; you can see it peeking over the top in a few places. Can't see the effect very well with these pictures, since the main lighting is up high.

Hope this helps,
ND

I have not used a crown molding but concerning the light effect it makes no difference. ;)
Have a look at my thread here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=726456&page=9&pp=30) and go to post #249.
I made some pictures with different light settings.

It isn't in a theater, but in my ining room.
Lights on:

Lights off:

You can also search BritinVa's construction thread, and SanmanX's thread. They aren't crown moulding, but in a tray that works the same.

The first two shots in my gallery (click the link in my signature) show wider shots of my room, which includes the crown/rope setup. I just got the crown and light up last week (1 year after the rest of the room was completed), and I'm pretty happy with the finishing touch it provides. I actually had a carpenter whom I know put the molding up, as this exceeds my trim carpentry skills. I put up the light, though (which was made much easier by using the plastic rope light channels that are sold at Home Depot).
