it's HAPPY? :) HEE HEE!
Seriously though recently it has just up and started humming until I go over and disconnect the connection to the A/V Receiver - which is an ONKYO 603X and cannot be totally turned OFF....it always remains in STANDBY mode....I naturally suspect that this has something to do with it. Can someone PLEASE advise?

No, no, no... It's because it doesn't know the words.

;)

So on to how to "teach it the words..."

Usually this recent occurence of the hum (ie wasn't there before), comes from something new being plugged into the system, or a cable or connection coming loose or not making proper contact. A very common source of this problem is from the cable/sat connection which will often have a different ground reference. Try first disconnecting the cable *at* the receiver, but not at the sub. If the problem goes away when you unplug this, keep moving up the chain and out to unplugging the sources such as a cable or SAT box where unplugging the right source with the others on will hopefully kill the problem. Hopefully you'll find that a cable box is the problem and won't have to resort to a cheater plug in leu of more expensive solutions.

MARK TKS....Hope my wee SUB can learn dem words - :) !

You say could be because something new was introduced into the system - recently I changed out a DVD Player, replaced my old one.........would this qualify?
When I unplug the cable connector at the SUB it stops.....I have just been pluging it in/out there when I want to use my TV/DVD [easiest route] so far.
