Just got back from Best Buy, plopped in Rocky Balboa into my BDP-1000. First half hour was good, then all of a sudden little freezes/stutters, sound cuts out, then corrects itself. It happens a lot too. At one point it freezes for over 10 seconds and when it finally gets to playing again part of the screen looks pixelated and blocky, then it cleans itself back up. What exactly is that? Even in the special features these things occur. Ugh.

While I love hi-def, it sucks sometimes to pay a premium only to have so-so quality. At best.

Did you check if the disc has any fingerprints, dirt or smudges on the surface ?

Yeah I checked for smudges and prints, but the disc was pristine. I hate worrying when I watch a next-gen disc if it's gonna play ok or not. That bugs me to have to do that, especially after all the money I spend on my gear.

As for the film itself, I liked it at the theater and still do now. I really liked some of the deleted scenes, and seriously, they should've used that alternate ending instead. Seeing Rocky win was pretty enjoyable.

I watched tonight on my ps3 and it was fine the whole way through,
I'm off tomorrow, i'll throw it in and play a while on my bdp-1000 and report back any issues (or not).

Is your Samsung upgraded to the latest firmware?

It was freezing on my PS3, turned off the internet on the PS3 and it worked fine.

There is an issue with freezing up and pixelated video on this disc on samsung and philips players even with the firmware updates. Dont know if it is a compatbility issue or disc defect. Plays fine on the sony PS3 and BDPS1.

Thanks for the info. I surely hope it's just a disc defect. I may try and return it and get another copy if Best Buy has any left.

My copy from netflix played fine on the BDP-S1 firmware 1.5. Good film BTW.

originally I watched it on my ps3, i rewatched it on my 1.1 fw. bdp-1000, plays flawlessly.

Mine is working beautifully.Hopefully you just got a bad disc and it's not your player.
