View Full Version : The Natural What Gives?
rlhjr34 03-20-07, 07:08 PM Ok, i'm really confused on this release. I originally pre-ordered from dvd empire and then they cancelled the order. Then I was on target.com the other day and saw it on their site and on Best Buy's site. It showed a release date of 4/3/07. Target even had cover art on their site. I just got a notice that it shipped. Is this going to be like Borat where we get a UMD instead of a Blu Ray or could this have possibly shipped already? I'm not real optimistic.
rlsmith 03-20-07, 09:03 PM It is listed at Amazon with a ship date of 4/3. They have cover art and it has a sales rank in the 4000's.
This is a mystery to me.
rlsmith 03-22-07, 02:47 AM I ordered "The Natural" Blu-ray from Amazon and my account status says that it will ship in early April. Everything appears quite normal...
... except that no one seems to know whether it is for real or not.
Does anyone have any information?

Did you end up ordering from Target or Best Buy? It appears that Target orders are processed by Amazon????
rlhjr34 03-22-07, 07:14 PM I ordered from Target actually. I got a confirmation that it shipped but then today I got the other two movies on my order. I checked the site and it says has not shipped yet. Indicates I should receive it on 4/5. So guess if it shows up I'll get it on time and not early.
rlsmith 03-22-07, 09:09 PM I curious thing is that neither the folks at highdefdigest nor Bill Hunt know anything about it. They are checking.
How can it be that a title a) has a listing on Amazon b) with a date c) with a cover photo and is d) selling preorders but no one knows or can find out about it?
I sometimes think that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is a subsidiary of Microsoft. :)
rlsmith 03-24-07, 05:55 PM Well, The Natural is also listed now on http://www.blu-ray.com. It appears to be real.
I will post if it really comes.
Maybe dvdempire won't be able to carry it initially.
Frank Stein 03-24-07, 11:18 PM Maybe dvdempire won't be able to carry it initially.
What explanation can you offer for this speculation?
BTW, DVD Empire has been very accurate over the years. A mistake on their part is very, very rare. If they aren't listing it, I'll be willing to believe it isn't coming out at this time.
lpburk2 04-03-07, 10:29 AM Just got a message from Amazon stating my order for "The Natural" has been canceled.
rlhjr34 04-03-07, 10:31 AM Yeah Best buy shows it as a 1-2 week backorder delay. So maybe the date was pushed back a couple of weeks?

ditto
Brad1963 04-03-07, 12:11 PM Sony really sucks. They sucked with Standard DVD and now Blu Ray. Considering "Blu Ray" is thier baby you would think they would at least attempt to deliver better titles. They have the worst list of titles available on continue to do so. The Natural is NOW missing, Da Vinci Code was never released, No Spiderman films, instead we get RV, The Covenant, Blood and Chocolate, Meatballs, Cruel Intentions, Catch and Release, Silent Hill, Ultraviolet etc.
braves_fan3 04-03-07, 12:14 PM Same thing happened to me! I'm not happy!
DavidHir 04-03-07, 12:35 PM One would have to think the Blu-ray group could have buried HD DVD by now if they would have done things right. Even with Warner practically only half-supporting Blu-ray, BD exclusive studios such as Disney (and its studios), Fox, Sony, and MGM have the potential to overwhelm the 'other half' of Warner titles and Universal at this point. Yet, this hasn't come close to happening.
NemoZorro 04-03-07, 12:57 PM I was planning on getting this title today. Do we know for sure if it has been canceled or just delayed?
jetfire76 04-03-07, 01:42 PM my pre-order from Amazon just got cancelled today as well :(

Absolutely. It will definitely be out in 1 to 2 weeks.
My lord. Hey everyone. It's NOT coming out now or anytime in the near future. It's been cancelled/postponed for a long time now. It however would appear that many just don't accept this and are hoping for a mircle that just isn't going to happen.

Well, that's disappointing. I did not know it was canceled - as of 2 weeks ago DVD Empire had it listed as coming out today, and that is when I put my wish list together. Looks like I wasn't the only one who didn't know.....
This seems to turning into a Blu-ray habit. Announce titles, then pull them at the last moment.
Sigh... I was looking forward to The Natural too.

It makes me wonder if they stille have trouble producing double-layer discs in quantity...? ....'an that slows down all production...? Which leave some studios waiting to get their 50 gig discs pressed. It's a theory that fits the facts anyway.
