I'm nearing the equipment purchasing point of my HT. I've noticed the some of the equipment I'm looking at (Yamaha receivier, DVD player, Velodyne SMS-1) have IR ports on the back of them. Will these work with a Niles repeater system by using a cable with 2 male jacks instead of the Niles flashers?
Thanks,
Matt
I'd love to know this answer myself... it would make sense that it would work, maybe I will just give it a try and see what happens...

My H&K AVR-745 IR jack works just fine with both a Xantech and a URC IR system (using a male to male 1/8 inch jack). Unless Niles is doing something strange, it should work.

Most equipment will work that way. I have a Pioneer Elite receiver with a rear-panel IR jack. That one accepts the signal from my URC RF-to-IR base station. However, the IR jack on the back of my HR10-250 HD DirecTivo is not activated, so I still needed to run an emitter to the front panel.
You'll need to watch out for proprietary mini-plug connections, which are used by companies like Sony and Pioneer. Those are used to pass a signal between two components, but they won't accept a direct IR input from a repeater or RF base station. My Elite receiver has both types (propietary miniplug and direct injection IR miniplug). You just need to make sure you plug into the correct input, or else your receiver won't do anything with the signal that it's getting.
