This may not belong to this forum. I am in the process of finishing my HT room. I thought the other day that it would be really neat to install some slot machines or video poker machines into the room for entertainment purposes. I have been looking online for some machines, most appear to be used or refurbished from the casinos.

Has anyone installed these machines in their home? Is there alot of maintenance to keep them running? Where or how did you purchase them? Suggestions? I do know that I want the versions that are found in LasVegas or Atlantic City, no foreign machines.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I found the other forum and posted there. But if anyone has any information, I would appreciate it.

Aren't these machines illegal to purchase?

Different rules for different states. Some outright ban - others will allow functioning machines if they pre-date 1957 (IIRC). A wide variety of laws.

I actually was able to come across a summary of the laws that apply. 13 states have no prohibitions on using the machines. Some have to be older than 25-30 years old, and some states have outright bans. Heres a link to that information...

I hope you can find a machine. But let me point out that you need to be mentally prepared for the day one of your neighbors drops a quarter in the machine and hits the big jackpot. How will feel about all the money you stuck in the machine?

Worse your neighbors 12 year old daughter drops that winning quarter one afternoon. You yell at the kids for playing the machine and she goes home. An hour later her father is knocking at the door and offers to not report you to the police but he'd like to take her winnings home for her college fund.

There out there, I Have a 25c double diamond that also has the bill changer. Its fun to have and everyone knows That if I put the $ in I keep any winnings but if people play there money they can keep the winnings. You can even get different wheels and face plates, I/e i can change it to hot peppers, lucky sevens etc. P.M. me and I tell you more if you want.

Who said I was going to fill these with money??? That would be illegal where I live. ;) The machines do accept coin and bills just like they do in Vegas, these are real machines, but you can buy tokens and fill the machines with them. They would be for entertainment purposes only!! If someone won a bunch of tokens, thats great, they can come back and play with the machines at some other time.

That's why it is important to be diligent in emptying the machine regularly. That dramatically improves the odds going to the house. ;)

Thanks for the info, I tried contacting a major manufacturer of these machines... Here's what I got back...

I finally received an email from IGT....

Dear James,

IGT does not sell directly to individuals due to business and regulatory
concerns. However, there are several brokers in the Las Vegas area who
specialize in this type of business. They can be searched out online
under "Used Equipment Brokers" or looked up in a Las Vegas phonebook.
While I can not officially recommend a broker I have done business in
the past with Showcase Slots @ 702-614-1000.

Thanks for playing IGT and Good Luck!

So we can't buy the new ones, but it looks pretty promising that we can get the refurbished or used ones. I'll have to try my luck .....

ROAD TRIP!!!!

I do remember going to a store many years ago that had all kinds of gambling stuff. I picked up my poker chips there. They did have some used machines but were kind of pricey.

You might have to show up in person because I have a hunch they may not ship out of state.

At the video game auctions around here, they always have a small army of those machines for sale. Japan has a rule that says the machine can only be used for 6 months, so the arcade auction operators buy them by the truck load.

Anyway, hit ebay.

Actually, many of the companies that can found on line will arrange for shipping to anywhere of the 13 states, some international. They will not ship to those areas prohibited by law.

I did some googling and there are a number of used machines available and I'm in one of the lucky 13 States. I think I just found another hole to shovel some money into.

You'd think that once we're of legal age we'd have the right to gamble in our house, as long as it's not a business. But then again, I had shares in Enron & MCI (World Com) - If only they'd said no it's illegal.
