Dr Kain 03-22-07, 12:01 PM Why are they still using freaking MPEG2? MySassyGirl 03-24-07, 01:18 AM thank goodness i have saved my first viewing of this movie for Blu-Ray. Yeah! xradman 03-26-07, 12:45 AM Amazon cancelled my order saying that they cannot obtain this disc. Is this delayed? vdmai 03-26-07, 01:47 AM Amazon cancelled my order saying that they cannot obtain this disc. Got the same email notice...Why??? chap 03-26-07, 08:56 AM I was very disappointed with this film. It will probably be good eye candy, but story wise it just wasn't that good. Dr Kain 03-26-07, 12:59 PM It would probably be good eye candy if it weren't MPEG2. Jason Priestley 03-26-07, 09:58 PM AMAZON just cancelled my order and you can no longer preorder it...weird. Ih8dumppl 03-27-07, 02:24 AM Bestbuy.com has it advertised for May 29th release now. Wonder if this is an accurate date. TheCuze 03-30-07, 12:21 PM Yes, it is an accurate date. May 29 it is, alongside Season 1 of Weeds, which makes it a nice BD day indeed. Also, why do people bash mpeg-2 transfers so much? Granted Talladega was lame, and I've heard about the issues with very early discs like Fifth Element and House of Flying Daggers, but I've also seen some absolute gorgeous ones: MI3, Babel, Crank, Kingdom of Heaven, and Monster House immediately come to mind. In fact, MI3, World Trade Center, and Babel have all matched their VC-1 (AVC in the case of Babel) counterparts on HD-DVD with near-identical PQ. These have all looked very good, and I might go as far as to say the POP of some VC-1 transfers, notably Warner ones, tend to sometimes make the picture look a little unnatural and overly colorful. Not all, mind you, as Paramount and Universal VC-1 transfers look amazing, and The Departed looked very nice for the most part, but come on, don't tell me Beerfest wasn't a little cartoony looking, or that Superman Returns wasn't incredibly dull in presentation. Bottom line, all three codecs are capable of astounding PQ, so can we jump off the bandwagon of bashing mpeg-2 for no good reason other than a few bad apples? asj2006 03-30-07, 12:28 PM Yes, it is an accurate date. Donnie Eldridge 03-30-07, 12:32 PM I would tend to agree, MPEG2 doesn't automatically mean the quality is going to be less than stellar. oink 03-30-07, 04:33 PM MPEG2 on 50gb can look terrific. |
