I recently purchased a samsung LN-T4661F 1080p HDTV and I'm not sure if I should invest in an upcoverting DVD player. Currently, I've been using my xbox360 via the VGA cable to watch DVD's.
Would I have better picture quality if I bought an upcoverting DVD player? Also, should I be looking at a 1080p up conversion or will 1080i suffice (in order to save a couple of $)
Thank you for your help with my novice question.
Please use the search function since this is asked every day. The answer is: it depends on your equipment, and the only way to know is to try one out. The Oppos are very popular and great value.

Is there an echo in the room? :)
I have the Pioneer, 5071 and wanted to get an upconverting DVD play. I read a number of the threads here and decided to get the Marantz DV6001, I picked it up last Wednesday, and to say the lease I’m blown away, the clarity, color and contrast are light years ahead of my six year old Sony and my Phillips recording DVD. The Marantz has a HDMI connection but I have it connected to the Pioneer with component cables through the received.
Oppos are great, LG/Zenith models work well too!

According to this post the XBox 360 already does the upconversion.

Oppos may be highly rated but I don't have one among my six players-personnel preference I guess.
