I currently have an aperion audio 12" sub (250 watts, 20 Hz-180 Hz) in my dedicated theater that is 13'x25'.
I am getting Totem Tribe I speakers (x7), and was wondering if I should replace the Aperion sub with the Totem Storm to match the tribes.
The Storm is an 8" sub, with 1 active and 2 additional passive woofers (300 watts, 26 Hz-350 Hz).
The Aperion sells for $600, the Storm for $1000.
Is the 12" or 8" better for my room? Is 8" big enough? Is the quality of the Storm more important then the size of the Aperion?
100% use for Home Theater.
Help me please!!!

Hello, You might want to post your Subs main use HT/Music or both, HT 80% music 20% 80% music ect...???. Reason i mention this is if your looking for mainly HT use you might be very interested in a sub that is good to 18hz or even 16hz- or lower or a vairiable setting sub like HSU VTF line , 18hz setting for HT and a 25hz setting for more output. jfrost,
Yo have a room that IMO would require a larger sub than either. This said if you want on the samall side the SVS SB12(under $800) would be the smallest I would consider, should be near the top for sound quality and will have like competing Sunfire subs good extension and output.
In the same vein, the Velodyne SPL1500R,more output.Similar to the above.Sealed ,compact and quite powerful. Built in circuit to flatten the response in room, with mic.
Going up the HSU VTF3HO(around $800),besides size all else is golden for the price.True performer, depth, output and very good sound quality.
After I would have to point a JL Audio f112,but here price jumps to over 2K,this one would be an ideal match for the refined Totems. And has it all in spades, including being compact! At over 110lbs it is heavy.
All in all no mistakes can be made with any of these four.
Thanks for the comments so far.
Of the two options in my post, which would serve me better... again it is a size versus quality question. Down the road I may look at a deeper sub, but for now, it is either keep the Aperion, or switch to the Totem.

I would keep the Aperion.
1) It will cost nothing.
2)Aperion probably has good extension down to 20Hz with low distortion.
3)Most B&M speaker companies that make beautiful speakers, make subs that have almost no low end extension, but do well on music.
You don't have to have a sub that matches the speakers. Subwoofers for the most, are not designed to go with a certain type of speaker.
The only thing that would concern me is if these are satellite speakers your buying, you may want to double check the freq. response of the Aperion and make sure it can remain linear up to 120Hz or so to offset the small speakers.
