I just bought a brand new Panasonic 37" PX60U plasma. I go to mount it on the wall, hook up the cable cord, and adjust it on the mount, and I hear this thud.....look around the back, and the antenna connector snapped off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the cable was too short, and the weight of the TV snapped off the antenna connector!!!!!!!!!! I'm about to throw up, as I should have know better!!! What will panasonic do to me? What are my options??????? WHAT SHOULD I DO????????? I'm usually very diligent about these things, but the excitement of seeing the plasma in all it's glory, I got too hasty! Help a fellow electronics geek out, and tell me it's going to be ok....
Will I have to send the whole TV back? Who should I call? The place I bought it, or Panasonic? I'm going to go sulk now........

Well, you can bypass the antennae connection and run component cables from your cable box or satellite box to the TV. That's how I run mine now.

Do you have homeowners insurance? In your haste you didn't really describe the extent of the damage.

If there's no physical damage you could always say you plugged it in and it didn't work perhaps not the most ethical thing though. It seems if there is physical damage you may need to rely on homeowners insurance attempt.

More than likely the deductible would be greater than the repair if it is even covered though. Most homes have at least a $500.00 deductible now days.

It depends who you bought it from but It doesn't hurt to start with them and then try Panasonic, you never know :)

Well, I barely got it out of the box, so I obviously put it back in without powering it on once I saw the antenna connector snapped out of the TV. I'm guessing it will require the tuner card to be replaced?

Depending which credit card you used, some of them cover accidental breakage for 90 days from date of purchase. Not sure if it excludes TV's though.

Thanks, I'll check into this! Damn....I'm so mad at myself!!!! The lack of sleep is probably what didn't help the situation....wasn't thinking straight.

just stick the antenna connector back in as best you can and return it. did you buy it at a big box store? if so youre fine. theyll never even see that.

Sorry to hear about that man. Do you have to even use the antenna connector? I know I don't use mine. I just use component cables for my sat box and everything else. I know it sucks but hopefully you can work around it without losing anything.

or you can just stick the connector back in, and return the set. the doofuses working the return counter will just check the condition of the screen and take the return.

That would be unethical and indicate a lack of character, as does your recommendation to do so.

The only thing to do that makes any sense is to get an estimate to have the unit repaired. Then a decision can be made to repari it or not. If some insurance legitimately covers it, then great.

A broken RF jack is a common repair and we fix most of them without great cost. If the board is damaged, however, it could get expensive. A decent and moral person would accept that taking responsibility for one's actions is the right thing to do.

which is why it is a hassle for the OP and why he can just return it. The store will find it eventually, return it to panasonic, and they will repair it and resell it. and thank you for the judgment of my character. you should go post in the costco thread.

I've done something similar in the past with a regular CRT. In moving it the cable connection was too short and the weight snapped the screw post off. It cost me $125 bucks at my local T.V. repair shop, it's a fairly simple repair, they remove the broken one from the board and replace it with a new one.

Panasonic will be furious that you damaged their product - you better not let them know!

just kidding

Well you could also trip at the counter and "hurt" your back, sue them, and buy a fujitsu with the settlement...........or you could grow up, take responsibility and learn from your mistakes. :)

I'm furious enough as it is at myself! I will call beachcamera.com, and see what they have to say about it. The antenna jack won't go back in to any degree. I actually thought about getting another jack to solder on the board, but better do this the right way. I'll also call panasonic, and see what my options are. Thanks for the consoling words! Thing is, I install and buy electronics all the time...one brain fart, and it's killing me!

I know how frustrating it can be as a couple years after getting my Pioneer Elite RPTV I was moving it to clean out behind there and I didn't realize my video cable from the receiver to the TV wasn't long enough and it broke the RCA jack on the back of the TV. I was extremely upset over it as I found out the jack was integrated into the panel and the whole board had to be replaced at the tune of about $300.00. Fortunately I was just able to hook it up to the #2 input and all was well and never really bugged me after that.

Well, I called beachcamera.com......very nice people, he calmed me down, and said no biggie, and gave me Panasonics number....I fessed up to what happened, and Panasonic gave me a number to a local service center. The tech did his best to get it under warranty, but Pan wouldn't do it....so he said $100 for the repair....I guess live and learn an expensive lesson!!! Hope to have it fixed by next week.

rickneuropa,
This whole post reminds me of the scene in Animal House where the kid is standing there with the cashier girl from the supermarket passed out drunk and the devil pops up on his shoulder & says f___ her, then the angel pops up on his other shoulder & tells him not to.

Come to think of it, didn't he return her to where he got her (her parents house) in a shopping cart, which is what most here are telling you not to do.

Consider it a slightly expensive lesson. Good luck
