I have an older model Pioneer rear projection TV, 53 inches, made in 2000. The TV is HD capable, but I need to tuner to make it so. I can't seem to find the tuner as it isn't made anymore, but it was the SH-D09 tuner that was made for it. My question is, since I can't find any of these tuners around, I don't know what to do about it. It has a VGA input in the back and I guess it can use another tuner, but I am not sure. Pioneer has little to no help to add to this subject, but does anyone know anything about it? What tuner will possibly work and if not where could I possibly find an old SH-D09 tuner?

There is no reason to hunt down that matching tuner. You can buy an entire new 70" HDTV for the price of that matching tuner that goes into the Pioneer Elite. Instead, just pick up a standalone OTA HD tuner for a couple hundred bucks (even less if you buy it used on Ebay). Or, if you are a cable or satellite subscriber, your provider may have a high-def STB that you can lease for a small fee each month.
Do a search for "Samsung" "HDTV" "tuner" on your favorite consumer electronics retailer's web site. You should find the DTB-H260F for under $200. For even less money, you could pick up a receiver for the now defunct USDTV service and get the OTA HD reception enabled for a $30 fee. For (a lot) more money, you could get an HD Tivo.
For the best picture, use the component inputs on your Pioneer Elite, and feed it a 1080i signal.
