We're nearing the completion of our new home and the subject of the drywall texture came up. My question is..... if I decide to paint the theater room, would you guys suggest having textured walls or not? If I decide to put GoM on it, then the texture is no biggie. But, if we decide to paint it, is it "normally" textured? If so, what style?

(pics may help if you have them)

Thanks!

Scotty

I'm not an expert but I don't think textured walls will have any effect as far as acoustics go. So I think it's more or less up to you what you want (and what the builder will do). Some like the textured look, some like it smooth.

My HT (Still constructing) will have a "Tuscan" theme so the columns will be textured with a knock-down type texture (or something similarly rustic). The areas in-between the columns and the rear wall will be treated (linacoustic/GOM).

Good luck!

Our room has acoustic treatment on the lower 48" covered in Dazian Expo Cloth. The upper 60" are treated with Venetian Plaster.

is your room a bedroom? dedicated ht room? garage?
I personally would think resale. I would texture it and put your treatment over it, in case the next buyer didn't want it to be a theater its already textured
but i'm new to this and only have 20 posts

as for texture, i like monterrey drag

I textured mine even though there is RL Suede paint and acoustic panels. I was thinking resale appeal.
