Thanks in advance for your participation at AVS.
7:10 p.m., Kansas vs. Southern Illinois (CBS HD)
7:27 p.m., Memphis vs. Texas A&M (CBS HD)
After conc., UCLA vs. Pittsburgh (CBS HD)
After conc., Ohio State vs. Tennessee (CBS HD)
First game of the night, Southern Illinois and Kansas. I do not know if there is anything CBS can do, but it looks like I am watching the game in the nose bleed section instead of up close and personal. I know the venues get bigger, but the players really looks small with this setup.
erocuroc 03-22-07, 07:56 PM Watching games via KIRO in Seattle with comcast dvr box. They started by showing the Kansas vs. Southern Illinois game which looked pretty good for CBS on hdtv, though it would be nice if the camera was closer.
Then they switched to the memphis vs. texas a.m. game which is unwatchable on hd. Lots of noise on the court and a ridiculous amount of pixelization/macroblocking on close-up motion shots. Reminded me of watching TNT b-ball. I switched over to the sd feed it's so bad.

Switched back to the hd feed and it looks ALOT better now. Not sure what was going on. May have had something to do with the switch between games? Maybe something with the local affiliate? Who knows, I just hope it stays this way...
McDonoughDawg 03-22-07, 08:41 PM Thank you again, WGNX Ch 46 Atlanta for making BOTH games available via Comcast. Kansas/SIL HD and A&M/Mem SD. Good job.
SIU/Kansas looks & sounds great on WWJ-DT CBS Detroit via Comcast.
Now everyone should be viewing the Texas A&M/Memphis game, which also looks & sounds great.

Getting some interlace artifacts, due to the way the court perimeter is painted.
Now back to San Jose, for Pitt/UCLA.
I just caught up watching the games on the DVR. They have looked good tonight. I'm watching on WWJ in Detroit via Comcast.
BTW, I see the NCAA is getting its money out of their court designers with both courts having the same design.

Yeah I was seeing that all game long too, and during the UT/OSU game. Are you seeing it in the 3 point line and mid court line too?
OTA, Memphis, WREG, 1 sub. Lots of macro-blocking.
Looks like it could be an all TN team South regional final
Marky_Mark896 03-23-07, 12:47 AM I can't believe the Buckeyes pulled that game out. That was amazing. They are giving me a heart attack every game though :D
sleddogn 03-23-07, 01:13 AM CBS WKYT Lexington Ky
Both the regular HD channel and one of the sub channels, had the same HD game on all night tonight. Usually the sub channel is the local radar sweep. I've never seen 2 HD broadcasts at the same time before on our station. Why would this be? 27.1 is the normal HD channel, 27.2 is a sub channel that carries our CW network, and 27.3 has always been radar except during the ncaa tournament, but have never seen 2 HD channels at the same time like this.

The second game is just remapped; it takes no additional bandwidth, so assuming they adjusted the encoder correctly, you were getting all the bandwidth possible for the broadcast.

Mc DD. Was the SD on 46.2? I know they did some of that last year.

seriously...that team is killing me! :) gotta love the tourney!
sleddogn 03-23-07, 10:48 AM thanks for the info Ken!

I'm assuming, but I'm watching on Comcast, they had the 2nd game in SD on channel 811.
It was also visible on the QAM tuner, so the PIP worked great. :)

LOL ... well if you enjoy having your 1080i/DD5.1 crossconverted to 720p/DD2.0 that is. ... ;)
EDIT: ... which is exactly what WKYT-DT (Lexington,KY) does with the CBS-HD feed.
... happy now ???? :D

I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Follow the trail of quotes. :) WKYT crossconverts (dare I say downconverts) the CBS feed to 720p and DD5.1 is nowhere to be found. Seemed pretty straight forward to me. ????????
PS: In other words, recovering that 0.5Mbps from the radar sweep doesn't have much effect. ;)

What quotes? There are none in this topic referring to WKYT & 720p.
In any event, 720p with no subchannels would be better than 720p with 2 subchannels.
taybuch 03-23-07, 09:16 PM Watching Florida vs Butler OTA from KCTV, Kansas City:
Is anybody else getting stuttering when the shot clock graphic is shown? The game has looked fine, except when the CBS shows the shot clock. Odd!

You may want to bring this up in the topic for todays games, this thread is for yesterdays games.
Here is the link to today's thread.

Aye chiuahua!!! We must be looking at two completely different threads ... 'cause I can easily scroll up and follow the entire conversation. I give up. :D

That post says nothing about 720p or DD 2.0.

Good grief man! My reply to Ken's reply of the original post does ... is it really that hard to follow? LOL .... Honestly, I don't see what the problem is here.
HDTVChallenged 03-24-07, 03:28 AM In any event, 720p with no subchannels would be better than 720p with 2 subchannels.
Except (and perhaps you missed this in the original post,) with WKYT it's still 720p with one 480i subchannel. Loosing the radar sweep might help the 480i sub channel look slightly less crappy, but it doesn't do anything for the 720p.
To make it completely clear:
Previously WKYT ran
27.1 (720p/2.0) CBS-HD,
27.2 (480i/2.0) CW-SD,
27.3 (480i) radar sweep @ ~.5Mbps
A few days ago, they dropped 27.3 causing many receivers to default to 27.1 if you attempted to tune to 27.3. This is what caused the OP's (sleddogn's) confusion, but, we got him straightened out in the local market thread. In any case, there's nothing "optimal" about WKYT's setup. There's no "bandwidth jackpot" to be found there. ;) :)
PS: I appologize for attempting to correct (mis)information that was only tangentially related to the thread topic, but really this is just a little bit nuts.
So to get back on topic :) : The HD feed from WKYT-DT looked "nominal" which is to say not-terrific, but not the worst I've seen either. Overall I prefered the feed from WLKY-DT (Louisville, KY)
