Greetings!
I was a regular poster on here for some time in the early 00's. My home theater is an early Dennis Erskine collaboration that I refer to as The Nexus...
That being said, I haven't been present on here for some time, but recently have began slowly upgrading (for me) some of the equipment in my theater. I finally replaced the now ancient Quadscan FE 2.0 Pro and got an IScan HD+. I know, still far from state of the art, but more than adequate for my Runco DTV-852 (7" CRT aka Zenith Pro-900X).
Well, I also dumped by Pioneer DV-F07 Megachanger for a Sony DVP-CX777ES for it's progressive scan capabilities, also for a possible SDI mod, and largely because of the RS-232 control, potential with Cinemar's stuff, but also possibly developing my own...But I digress...
When I got this new equipment I decided it was time to have the projector reconverged and recalibrated by a veteran ISF expert. Enter Dan Miller. Dan is the national video product manager for Marantz, but he also is an ISF tech and still finds time to do this work on the side...
Dan spent 6.5 grueling hours working with my equipment on a Sunday afternoon and evening and all I can say is "WOW!". The projector was originally calibrated with my old source equipment by Chuck Williams, also an ISF guru in his own right in 2000. But that was some time ago with an inferior scaler, etc. Dan, working with my "newer" equipment produced a result with my projector which frankly is beyond my wildest imagination. I never new my projector, my so-called lowly analog CRT" could produce such an amazing image with HD source material...Dan applied a level of expertise best described as a hybrid of engineering precision united with a zen like melding with the projector. The result remains eye popping. Anyone who has recently been to my theater thinks I got a new projector and comments immediately on the amazing picture the new projector renders...
I can't thank Dan enough. He is truly a master crafstman with an uncompromising passion for quality. He simply would not settle for good enough. He used every last tweak and trick at his disposal to levels of exactitude that I believed had become a thing of the past in this day and age, and I just had to share this story with all of you, because Dan deserves it, and because there is unquestionable value in my humble opinion, to employing the skills of a master ISF technician to get the most out of your display device, whether CRT, LCD, Plasma or DLP.
Best Regards,
Darryll
